After many years of boom, now come years of drought. The Biblical Egypt that was salvaged by Joseph's divine wisdom presents itself. We had years of oil boom but the state actors failed to learn the Joseph formula. Nigeria, like Russia and Venezuela, is in for a long period of economic winter. May GOD help struggling families during this season of financial drought in JESUS name.

Johnnyessence:
Secretary General of the National Union of Textile Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN),
Comrade Issa Aremu, has expressed concern over non payment of workers salaries by many state governors.

Speaking with newsmen in Kaduna at the NUTGTWN meeting, Aremu described the development as a wage theft, wage robbery and economic crime.

Aremu who is the Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress ( NLC) said for about three months now, 22 state governors are delaying or refusing to pay salaries but paid the delegates during the just concluded primary elections across the states.

“We see that delay in payment of salaries as wage theft, wage robbery. It is actually an economic crime because Nigeria labour law says thou shall pay the worker as at when due. In fact by 22nd of every month you must have pay the workers fully.

“We never heard of any delegate being owed a single penny during the primary elections, but they cannot get
money to pay the workers. In fact, some of the delegates even bought new cars and properties after the primaries because they money they got in just few days is much more than what workers earn in many months.

The governors should go to the place they got they money to pay delegates and settle the workers’
salaries ,” he said.

He also said the NUTGTWN has succeeded in negotiating a 15% increase in wages for its members, making
it a 35% increase in the last four years.

“This shows that the process of collecting bargaining is working in the private sector and we will like to recommend this process for the public sector because most of their crisis is on the increase of wages and salaries which has been causing endless strikes and unfavourable industrial actions,” he added.

So, Akpabio too hasn't paid? Truly, PDP is a curse.

Akwa Ibom State has a population of about 5 Million people and receives about 30Billion Naira monthly from the FG, yet he cant pay workers their salaries for several months.

Faahola gets roughly the same thing as Akwa Ibom in revenues and paid its workers 13th month salary. Meanwhile, Alimosho LG in Lagos state has a population of 9Million inhabitants (more than the entire Akwa Ibom state).

Akwa Ibomites, help is on the way.

I am a federal worker and am being owed 8 months 15% of my salary. To those who claim aregbesola is owing pls think twice and make analysis before commenting.

This is a developing state that needs about 3.5 billion to clear wage bills. In d middle of this year its allocation was a little above 2 billion making the state subsidies with its IGR before it can pay its workers.

Now the allocation to Osun has further dropped to below 1.5 billion naira. Tell me how u want Aregbe to pay when their IGR is not even close to anything meaningful.

The only way FG wants him to cope is to either owe workers close to half a year, borrow from banks and pay which all make the allocation come down by about 40% by the time u remove both capital and interest, thereby leaving him with just around 800-900 million.

Now if he removes his security vote from this money, is there anything left?. No

So before u castigate, analyse the allocation being disbursed. Osun receives one of the worst allocation.

That's why we keep insisting on Resource control, fiscal federalism and privatization.

Until we empower our federal units eg States LGAs and Private sector, get ready to witness more of this even under a Buhari.

President Goodluck Jonathan's administration has not paid over 100, 000 senior civil servants three months salaries. The civil servants and their families are suffering and whining while GEJ and his families and sycophants are enjoying their Christmas parties from the Niger Delta to Abuja.

Isa Aremu is a hypocrite. Why is he bleating now? When the Minister of Finance kept advising in the past that that the Federal Budget be pegged at $65 while oil sold at over $100 in order for Nigeria to save for the rainy day, Hypocrite Aremu who makes no bones about his partisanship while pretending he is merely a labour unionist teamed up with his fellow politicians in the so-called opposition to block the wise advice. Now, he is shedding crocodile tears. E never start o. Wait until oil price plummets to $40 dollars a barrel. Na dat time you go bray like the donkey that you really are.
chaii this is the exact same issue I was discussing with some folks yesterday! God I thank you that not all nigerians forget easily after a plate of eba...I thank God that some still make independent observations outside nairaland..
