New Year POLL: What Should Be The Top 3 Priorities Of Nigeria's Gov't? by LRNZH(op):
Fellow Nairalanders,

We have been arguing about APC, PDP, GMB, GEJ, Prof. Osinbajo, Arch. Sambo etc etc.
We have tried to analyse their strengths and weaknesses.

But what should be the most important three priorities for any Gov't in charge of Nigeria now? By now I mean the last 5 years or so and the next 5 years.

Is it Railways, Airlines, Roads, Health, Education? Power, Refineries, Health, Security, Agriculture etc?

Feel free to post you opinions please with analysis. No insults abeg.

In my opinion, for Nigeria's Economy to stabilise (GDP, exchange rate, Foreign Reserve), and enable other sectors to take off,

The top 3 should be
1. Security
2. Power
3. Refining Capacity

All other sectors depend on a stable economy which these three listed above will provide.

Even OPEC recently blamed Nigeria's woes during the oil price crash on lack of Refining capacity. See excerpts below :

Oil Crisis: OPEC Blames Poor Refining Capacity For Nigeria’s Woes

Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries, (OPEC), has blamed the dismal refining capacity in Nigeria for its inability to weather the headwinds in the global oil industry.

It also criticised the huge refining gap within the continent, even as it notes that the region is lagging behind in implementation of refinery projects.

It further stated that Nigeria has failed to fast track the implementation of new refinery projects, while it continued to face setback on rehabilitation of the existing refineries.

Nigeria presently has four refineries and two located in PortHarcourt (old and new) while others are in Warri and Kaduna with a total refining capacity of 455,000 barrels per day.

But issues like corruption and mismanagement have greatly impaired several government efforts to implement Turn Around Maintenance (TAM).

Also, challenges associated with regularisation and political instability has slowed down investment in new refineries.

It added that, “The need for additional capacity in other large countries has led to talk of several other major refining projects. This is the case in Nigeria where options range from the rehabilitation of existing refineries, through to several new smaller projects and a large-scale new grassroots refinery.”

Power
Refineries
Transport

I did not add security because the only security challenges Nigeria is facing is Boko haram, and I believe it can be tackled if the right measures are taking. The aforementioned takes years to develop

the govt at all level should start telling us the true state of our nation so that we will know what and what to expect from them.
They should provide good road network so as to reduce traffic conjestion.
Security is optional for not every sectional leaders and thier people want to be secure hence inviting BH to come and do what they know best.
Education by govt at all level.

1: Execute Past/Present Corrupt Leaders.. i.e all of them
2: Establish a Constituted Militarized Ruling Council to preside over matters while the masses select the right leaders
3: Transit to 5th Republic with Ruling Council forming a 4th Arm of Government keeping an eye on Corruption as EFCC has failed woefully

Tell me Nigeria will not improve after this.. grin grin

1. Corruption

2. Education, one that promotes ingenuity, reward for hardwork such that the entertainment industry will look less lucrative as that sector(entertainment), has turned everyone into comedian, musician and what have you. It really has negative effect on Education. The government should put policies in place to FORCE the likes of MTN, GLO, MALTINA and co to invest HEAVILY in that sector as they are currently doing in the entertainment industry. At least, they should make it a 50-50 proportion.

3. Power.... Fix the power sector to deliver stable electricity supply and watch what Nigerians can do. This will create new millionaires in no time.
