I got mine (Baron, 2015 written on it with a CD) for N3k at Marina-Lagos, just at those kiosks where books are sold behind the famous bookshop.
Watchout for fake prints or photocopy/pirated copies. A friend once bought a fake current edition of kaplan's.

Got another post for y'all. And like I said in my previous posts, you're gonna have to get used to my sense of humor and brash delivery. Now that we have that out of the way, lets begin
Now that you have been granted visa and you know deep down in your soul that you cannot afford close to $15k and above per semester (by the way, unless you get a TA/GA, limited scholarships or some type of grant, international students do not get any type of financial aid!), youre probably wondering "How I wan take do am?". Got a couple of ideas, some of which I tried out myself. First of all, the honest truth, which a lot of folks don't tell you is that it is EXTREMELY HARD for international students to find jobs. For example, it's practically almost impossible to find any under the table jobs at places like target, walmart or any retail chain (unless the manager is your father!) because they all do E-Verify. International students don't get SSN (unless you get a job in school, and before you start thinking smart, your SSN is only valid for school employment. It will be written on your SS card). Having said all that, you still have a few options, if you're smart enough and like the saying goes "naija boys no dey carry last". IF you're able to save up some money (3k-5k), you can buy a car when you get here and get your drivers license asap. With your car, you can find pizza delivery jobs that'll pay you under the table. Its not much, sometimes as low as $5/hr, but the more hours you work the more money you make. you can be doing this, while you try to figure out how to get your papers straight and then you can find a better job. The thing is even if youre a doctor in naija or a lawyer or anything, and you enter here with anythin other than an immigrant visa stamped on your passport, you won't get a job (for health professions, its a little different, but that will come in another post).
Its good to have a plan before leaving naija. I can't emphasize that enough.
This is why I'm planning to wait till fall 2016 to apply, just to be sure of getting some funding. I'd also av to save till then while I keep working n studying for GRE n Toefl. I don't av any sponsor but I believe in God for d best. I av to wait longer tho. Thanks for d ideas shared, bro, keep it coming, I'm awaiting d gist for health profs.

My Transcript at the Lagos Embassy Yesterday.....

I just filled my DS 160 monday afternoon. Woke around 3am but forced myself back to sleep even though I couldn't sleep like that. Stood up from bed by 4 am and took my morning prayers till 4:30. Took my bath and was ready by 5am. I got to embassy some minutes pass 6 and went through the normal checks and sat for the interview. While sitting down, myself and 2 other guyz sitting beside me were busy Gisting and laughing as people were been interviewed and before we knew it, it was our turn. The guy before me got his and it was my turn

VO: Hi, how are you

ME: Am fine, thanks and you

VO: Am good

VO: Why Mississippi State University

ME: I researched online about the school and I was also privilege to have a chat with the school admission officer who introduced the school to me proper and also they have something I love so much which is a Good Sport Team cos am also a sportman myself (in my mind I knew it was pointless)

VO: So why General Studies?

ME: Actually I applied for Civil Engineering as a transfer student from Yaba College of Technology where I had a Diploma but the school told me I have to start with Pre Engineering and there was no code for it on I-20 so they had to write General Studies which will be changed for me upon resumption

VO: Ok who is sponsoring you , what does he do

ME: My Dad and he is a Civil Engineer too and he owns a construction company

VO: kk your visa has been approved pick it up at this location.

She gave me my I-20 and sevis receipt saying you will need this at the point of entry.

It was all by the grace of God......... Had to pray for 7days with fasting

Hello house. The second to the last poster said something about filling the ds 160 form on Monday but my confusion is this. I learnt earlier from previous posts that you book appointment with the confirmation number from the ds160 after submition.

My question is how was he able to book an interview without previously fill the form??

Thanks.

Just hold on. He'll respond to your question.

Just focus more on his interview transcript and not how he scheduled an Appointment. cheesy

Someone could fill a form online and get a favorable 24 hour date. It depends on luck and of course those that dropped out or cancelled theirs.

That was an intelligent question though!

I got to MMIA on sunday afternoon and my flight was to leave for 9:30 but check ins began 5:21pm so i went through normal schedules through the customs who requested for money for Christmas. I told them no problem i had something bigger than money for them they were so excited but only for me to tell them to close their eyes so i would pray for em because I'm an evangelist. One of em was like WTF! But he took the prayers and that was how i passed em all without giving em a dime. Later i moved to out departure gate there i met a guy who said he just spent 8k on customs because they threatened not to let him travel if he did not settle em. Hmm naso dem start to dey call for our group I joined the queue and in some minutes i was in the flight.

We took off at exactly 10:50pm from lagos down to dubai dxb airport. I went through the security checks and then went to transit to Chicago. Got into another plane and in 17hours we landed safely at O'hare Airport where i was cleared and stamped by the customs and then told "welcome to the states" no much questions was asked only my purpose of coming to the states and what i will be studying. Then i went to baggage claim to pick up my bag. I quickly went to the united airline's to present my ticket from chicago to San francisco then to California. They weighed I'm my bag and off i went to board my flight. Got to San Fransisco late at night and was supposed to board another one to Ontario CA.but the flight time was postponed from 7:10 to 9:00pm which meant i would miss my flight to Ontario.

I went to the customer service to complain and they gave me an earlier ticket but also gave me a hotel and meal voucher and apologised for the delay. In a few minutes i was on gate 1 waiting for a shuttle to get me to the Airport hotel in san mateo. Waited forlike 10mins and there came the shuttle, a white fat guy who was the driver jumped out and picked up my bag iinto the boot and opened the door and i went in and we drove down to the san mateo Airport hotel and i checked in till the next day i took breakfast and off i went in a shuttle to the airport to catch my flight to Ontario at exactly 12:20pm we landed safely and got off the plane to pick up my baggage in 5 mins my uncle drove to pick me up down to san pedro California where i am typing this now.

I just want to thank God for journey mercies and you guys for the info i got here that really helped me. God bless you all. grin

Thanks for quoting me. I have read the transcript and noted all I can gain from it. What I don't understand is how a form can be filled on Monday and interview next day as I have read about you not getting inside if appointment confirmation number does not tally with ds 160.yes I will like to be cleared on that.

This your transcript is a fiction. Thanks for sharing though. Men your flight really housed some perceived smelly Indians who would always act funny.

True talk jake, early application saves stress. For fall applicants, try submit all needed document asap, this is the time your preferred school international office will have your time and you might prolly get scholarship or assistance.
Jake try and comport at the Poe and answer only questions you are asked and don't look too anxious. Hop u didn't book return ticket because that's also a very fast way to get sent back . Save trip and don't give anyone your passport oo

I'm sorry for just posting my transcript. Been down with post-interview fever (strange, isn't it?).
The interview:
Me: How's it going?

V.O: Good. I can see you're heading to Texas State University to study Human Nutrition.

Me: Yes.

V.O: Why TSU?

Me: I settled for TSU after conducting an extensive research on the internet using usnews.com and princetonreview.com. I got in touch with some of the Professors in the department and was particularly fascinated by the publications of Dr. B.J. Friedman, Head of Integrated Metabolism and Physiology Lab. After exchanging mails with him, I became convinced that the school is the right place for me. (all d above na this thread-inspired lies grin)

V.OsadNods in acknowledgement). Which school did you graduate from?

Me: LAUTECH

V.O: What course?

Me: Biochemistry

V.O: Which year?

Me: 2011, Nov. 18 to be precise.

V.O: Good. (She stares at the screen and types). Who is your sponsor?

Me: My Dad

V.O: What does he do for a living?

Me: He's a maritime consultant to Nigeria Ports Authority and he also owns a firm that's into Haulage (Transport n Logistics).. Another lie again. Jesus, you just av to forgive me.

V.O: What does your mother do?

Me: I never prepared for this type of question but as a street-groomed guy, I had to come up with something. "She runs a chain of eateries in Lagos", I answered.

V.O: Visa approved. You'll need blah..blah blah

On hearing the verdict, I started perambulating on the same spot like a zombie. I just couldn't find the exit door for about a minute.

My Maximum Twale to: Imperiouxx, GboyegaD, BigFrancis, Walspring, MsNas, Slimmy05, Zeezahbee et al. I've gained a lot from all your posts on this thread.

In a nutshell, to fellows who av been denied on one attempt or more, please do not give up. I nicked mine at the 3rd attempt. And for those with upcoming interviews, it's yours already.

The real battle has just begun....
