Another concern is that if I defer, the next entry is in September and 9months from now seems like a very long time.
apply 2 another school for may date, guess 4months isn't long.

I am much aware. Have couple of friends there. But found out they are in Nigeria and don't have their Naija contact for now. I didn't keep in touch. I know it's a funny little place but where am heading is not more a crime prone area. Thanks

Check for any facebook association for African students or something related...you might find few Nigerians there

Congrats to everyone that got visa, aadeyi, slimmy... May God bless our hustle in the states! Slimmy, I don't think you should have a problem transiting in Paris, I once mailed their embassy to inquire and they said no visa is required..

Wishing you all a safe flight down here..

Good day house, any F1 students that wants to be a US citizen via the military please go the nearest army recruitment office near you and apply for the mavni program asap. Major requirements: 2 years stay in USA on F1, F2, H1B e.t.c. status ànd fluency in Hausa, Igbo or Yoruba. The program was opened yesterday and only 1000 slots are available. Please hurry and grab your copy now. Find out more from Google or join the mavni Facebook page. Thanks and appreciates.

Note
This information strictly beneficial to married US graduates from Nigeria on opt, who don't have job that can file and don't wish to divorce to get citizenship. It is another option for those intending to stay back in USA. if you have any worries or concern talk to a army recruiter knowledgeable in MAVNI or join MAVNI on Facebook. please don't listen to all these JJCs (Nnamdi and Bikey) that just make comments on anything without doing proper research.

This is my way of giving back to a forum that helped me 4 years ago.

Hello solomond1, happy new year in advance.
I was denied F1 visa on the 3rd of December, since then I haven't been a happy man.. Cos, i honestly don't know why that lady refused me a visa, after i answered all the questions she asked me to the best of my knowledge. I couldn't reapply immediately cos, there was no available date for interview in December and early January.

I read ur msg and I am truly inspired. Pls what's the next step for someone who wants to reapply?

I also want to know if the SEVIS fee I paid on the 2nd of December is still valid for fall 2015 admission.

Thanks.

solomond1:

Thanks for quoting me. I have read the transcript and noted all I can gain from it. What I don't understand is how a form can be filled on Monday and interview next day as I have read about you not getting inside if appointment confirmation number does not tally with ds 160.yes I will like to be cleared on that.

I got my F1 visa on 18th at the Lagos Embassy. I've booked my appointment date since 1st of Dec. And I filled my DS-160 on the 16th of Dec but I had registered the same day I booked my appointment so the confirmation number (alpha-numeric) was available already. Maybe that's what he did.

How true is this information because I know joining the US military is not something anyone should just dive into without proper research.

OK thanks. I could be wrong and I stand to be corrected. A little advice I got from someone who has been in the military for 10years, he doesn't encourage anyone who comes to America for the sole aim of schooling to join the army because you can't just sign up and start receiving benefits without serving them, you have to leave school for a while and go on to serve the country then after some time, they'll permit you to return to school before coming back to finish your contract with them.. Like I said, I stand to be corrected, I no sabi all things

Thanks bro. I understand it now. Once you start the application and filling of the ds16 0. A number will be assigned with that application which you can use to book appoinent and you can continue to fill the ds160 on a later date.

Thanks.

There is no problem once you pay ur sevis fee make sure you take the print out back to the embassy then your passport will be withhold&thy will tell you when/where to collect your passport.

A journey of boredom. I woke up by 3am on 28th and after getting my acts together, I was off to MMIA. I got there, did the normal filling of forms and my bags were checked. Fastforward immigration screening and searching, we were sat at the waiting room for our flight. Finally we were off to casablanca. I sat with a nigerian based in UK and we spoke twice or thrice because there wasn't any entertainment. Got to casablanca and after a two hours wait, we left for jfk. It was one long and boring journey. The white guy refused to talk and I was there playing music and watching movies. The Food was terrible too. There was turbulence towards the end of the journey and peple were laughing and praying. Landing wasn't nice too but all in all we got there without problem. Poe wasn't how it was painted here. They ask u the basics and they stamp and sign ur passport. Took a shuttle bus to west haven and I am in a local hotel for now.

The cold here is guaranteed pneumonia.

@bold...that's the typical american life for you. Everybody minds their business. The average US neighbourhood is quiet, boring, uneventful e.t.c. except for fast-lane cities like new york.

To the guy asking me not to be an a.s.s, you're just going to have to get used to my sense of humor. Its crude thats all. And i still maintain that Reekadohbanks of MAVIN is one ugly MF. Anyways back to the agenda..
Here's a fair warning for those that have just been granted F1 visas and are hoping to come to the US and survive on a job on campus. Be prepared for a rude shock. First of all, on-campus jobs only pay minimum wage ($8.25 if you're very lucky) and you can only work a maximum of 20 hrs per week (which isn't guaranteed you'd get that many hours anyways). So after your FITW (federal income tax withheld) your take home will be about $160 - $220 every month. That doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the heap of bills you'd have to pay. Your phone bill alone is almost 1/3 of that. Add the cost of transportation (Yes, even public transportation is pricey) and food, and you're done. Remember that you'd have to pay rent. And if you're unlucky enough to find yourself in cities like Boston, NYC, DC, or Chicago, be ready to shell out 750-1200 dollars a month on rent for a 12x12 room that isn't half as big as your mother's pantry in Iyana Ipaja. Best advice: Be honest with yourself right from the beginning and have a game plan. If your parents are civil servants in naija and had to put all their savings together to buy your flight ticket, and your plan is to come and "hustle" your way through school, don't even waste your time. There's no "hustling" your way through their over-priced schools here. Its outrageously expensive, even if you get financial aid (before you start asking what that is, F1 visa holders are not eligible). F1 students cant legally get any jobs and eve if you get any under the table jobs, be ready to slave for some smelly pakistani who was wise enough to come here and open a pizza place.
So now you're probably asking yourself... so what can a man do?. Fear not my children, I've got the answer for you. There's no shame in sneaking into the US under the guise of a student visa. We all know that the mushroom schools in some nasty backwater town in Mississippi or Oklahoma(who effing goes to Mississippi!!!!!) that gave you I-20 isn't much better than UNN or UI, but at least it gets you in (I entered with I-20 from VIU!!!.. sweet lord!, I'd have to do a whole new post on that podunk wastebasket they call a university!). When you get here, don't be slow, your 2 years visa is going to expire even before you can spell VISA. The sooner you're able to become a permanent resident, the better for you (and I mean that with all my strenght!... ANother post on that will come soon). Life will be easier for you. Then you can figure out which school to go to that will work out for you. Most naija people here just do nursing. you'll get an associate in about 3 years and you'll get a job in a nursing home that'll pay you $15-25 an hr. Not bad right?. All I'm trying to say is that, you're way better off if you have a plan before leaving naija... if you're planning to "jama jama" or "rugged" your way through school with odd jobs, you're going to be more surprised than when you discovered your 100MB data is finished because you opened one website!... you get the gist.
