ElekeNtioba:These insults are really unnecessary. You can make your point without stooping this low. I know several Ikwerre that admit to being Igbo. What do you think they'll say when they see your post? |

herinolah:Bikonu umu Igbo, ebekwa ka onye a nuwa si? @ poster, you need to take it easy. Your sisters case may be a one off thing. Sorry about the incident. Btw, why should your sister get married to a man and even had kids for him without knowing where he came from? Strange if I may say |

illicit:Thanks bro. I still find it difficult to understand y Yoruba and Hausa hate Igbo so much yet they refused to let them go establish their Biafra in 1967 and even now, rikes of hypocrisy! You hate your wife and always attacking and abusing her, yet when she asks and applies for divorce to go live on her own, u beg and fight her by all means to remain married to u- doesn't that show that u love her secretly and afraid her departure may ruin your life ![]() |

Aldrickay:1) How does number one in anyway relate to the question of relatedness between Igbos and Ikwerres? It's a good thing you accepted the property were the Igbos' but the Ikwerres refused to return them back. Same happened in the northern part of Nigeria. This question you asked is worthless. 2) You think Igbo unity started with Ohaneze Ndigbo? For your information, Igbo unions were formed in as early as 1934 in the same Port-Harcourt which served as one of the early founding towns of Igboland. Ogbakor Ikwerre was only formed as recently as in May 1963, some 30 years after Igbo Union was formed in both Lagos and Port-harcourt. Preceding the formation of Igbo union in PH/Lagos, Igbo Union was formed in Sierra Leone by ex-Igbo slaves as early as in the 1800s! Igbo union Nigeria way precedes Ogbakpr Ikwerre, which was formed in a breakaway attempt from the greater Igbo ethnicity. Ohaneze Ndigbo is only a recent umbrella body formation by the Igbos. 3. Igbo Federal Union Second, in all efforts by the minorities in the former Eastern Region to agitate for their own political, social and economic recognition and liberty in the Easter Region and Nigeria at large, Ikwerre participated fully: hence, the late Chief E. J. A. Oriji and others represented Ikwerre before and during most of the conferences set up to address the fears of the minority ethnic groups in Nigeria. Third, in May 1963, Ikwerre people formed the Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention to state that Ikwerre is a distinct ethnic group from any others in Nigeria.3) List those so-called traditions that make the Ikwerre different from Igbos? 4) 'Osoma'/'Isuoma' is also used by the Ohaji, Oratta, e.t.c of Imo state to refer to other Igbos living around them. It isn't peculiar to the Ikwerre sub-group. Igbo groups have always referred to those living around them by a particular name. FYI, Igbos of the hinterland refer to Igbo-speaking and non-Igbo speaking people alike living close to the sea line as 'ndi mba mili' (people living close to the sea). 5) The refusal to sell land is a personal choice by certain natives of an area. The nsukka people of Enugu hardly sell their land to outsiders (these outsiders which include Igbos from Enugu state). This is in no way unique to the Ikwerre. The non-sale of land to Igbos by certain Ikwerre families is borne out of the unnecessary fear of the Igbo man's ambition which they term 'aggressive. |

sufido123:i really dont give two phucks as to d opinion of anybody. My post is actually intended for the Igbos who want to cozy up to the ikwerre when there's notin remotely fantastic abt dem. Maybe I went too far, maybe not. Let them go their separate way if they wish. You cant force anyone to chose his identity. I admit there are always exception to every rule. So NOT ALL ikwerre are like i said they are. I have relatives married to ikwerre. Infact my favorite in-law is an ikwerre man. So any ikwerre who wishes to identify as Igbo is gladly welcomed to the fold. |

hensben:I have always blamed the poor knowledge of some of our youths today on their lazy attitude toward reading. Please, read, read, read and read. You'll then argue wisely. Here is the history of Asaba as handed down by my ancestors, in our own words:http://www.asabausa.com/traditionalgovt Asaba has its origin in Igboland AWKA/NTEJE and would remain so forever |

Lilimax:What abt the ijebu woman who came to sell. How did she end up there? How come she is still alive? She knows a foreigner can be marked for death yet she gladly still does business there? Anyone with a good head on his neck know dat d yoruba can never live (not to talk of doin business) in a risky environment. Their ambition and bravery no reach dat level. A coçk-n-bull yoruba propaganda invented by d yoruba for d yoruba. |

We igbos we are great people. I'm glad a topic like this is posted. My main concern is that our generation now, we don't see this igbo language as our heritage. Its a thing of pride when you travel and you speak igbo language and you look like a village man/woman. In some cases you'll travel and our fellow igbos betrays us. I have a case like that when I traveled to benin republic, on getting to the border, where passports was a means to passage, I met a so called igbo man, who because of his language I felt safe with him. I promised him a handsome amount if he'll cross me over he agreed only for him to dupe me of all my valuables including my phone. We are not UNITED. Also I want to encourage our parents to make sure their children speak their native language. |

Igbo always trying to claim relationship, south-south say they r not related to u and u r moving up and down trying to show the ties. Am afraid u will also say that Akwa Ibom is an Igbo land.Stop all these, we r not interested in Igbosim period. Stick to ur southeast and leaves others alone. If I hear any Igbo claim Akwa ibom I will spark.....m |

humilitypays: humilitypays:some years ago in the arakale area of akure ondo state, indigenes refuse to lease or rent out their shop or house to igbo traders because when they do, the igbo will aproach, convince and bribe a prodigal member of that family to sell off the property to him without the knowledge of the true owner, this caused some rife, and most yoruba believe that igbo traders do human ritual just to make money or get customers, lagosians think igbos are covetous citing the case of festac where igbos claim they are majority and so its theirs... I dont know about the hausa part |

kellystech:Trust me, i have never seen anything like this in my life, People forcing themselves on other people just to measure up to others in terms of population, landmass, Oil and other natural resources I presumed. It's just pathetic!!!! And saddening to this small neighbouring tribes (Ikwerres and d rest) being forced into what they don't want............... Igbo Nation is big, enterprising, cultural and above all richer(In terms of other natural resources) than all these smaller tribes around them, appreciate what you have got as Nation and let these smaller tribes be and be proud of their histories. If you force people on yourself, the day of trouble, you would have enemies within and that would definitely lead to your downfall quickly............ Advice from Wise man. We are neighbours for God sake and our cultural values ll always and continue to look similar and that shouldn't make bigger tribe to lay claim or subjugate the smaller ones......... There are millions of Yorubas living in Benin Republic who always in Lagos and every other South West state for all sort of Yoruba traditional festivities but Yoruba as nation as no right to lay claim on them unless these people demand for their recognition by Yoruba nation... There are millions of Yorubas such as: Edo-Akoko, Akoko-Edo in Edo state, Okun people are 20% of Kogi state population, Kwara state, even as far as Delta but Yoruba nation gives that freedom to them to ask for their recognitions. My point is that Igbos should allow these people to ask for their recognitions..... Peace Out

zendy:Are you paying attention to him/her? Okolo (male in Igbo) and Onochie (representative/replacement) are core Igbo names. Attama is an Igala word for 'high priest'. Attama is not an Igbo name and I am yet to meet an Igbo person with such a name. There are a few Igalas in Anambra state, around the border with Kogi state and any Anambrarian with such a name is definitely from that area. |
