No Plan To Postpone February Elections; We Have Sufficient Funds – INEC by Adeoba10(op): 12:14am On Jan 08, 2015
The Independent National Electoral Commission
(INEC) on Tuesday assured Nigerians that it will
go ahead to conduct the forthcoming elections.
INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, speaking
at a one-day workshop to train security agencies
for the election, said there was no basis for
concern over funding of the commission’s
activities, as it was okay with the fund at its
disposal. Jega, who was represented by a national
commissioner in the commission, Dr Ishmeal
Igbani, the chairman of INEC Electoral Training
Institute, said “nobody will postpone election.
“Anytime there is election in Nigeria, there is
always some form of tension. I don’t think people
should be afraid, but it is also essential that we
get ready.”
Also at the workshop, the Inspector General of
Police, Suleiman Abba, warned politicians and
political parties to play by election rules or face
the full weight of the law. Represented by the commissioner of police in charge of election monitoring, Mohammed Ghanzali, Abba said the police, being the leading security agency for all elections, would enforce the rules of the law.

the electoral rules as stipulated in the Electoral
Act 2010, as amended and the constitution of the
country.
