Buhari will triple unemployment if voted into power, I mean he hasn't done any meaningful work since he was ousted by Babangida in 1985. How can Buhari who hasn't worked since 1985 know how to improve employment?

Vote Buhari for 77%-100% unemployment.

Vote Buhari who has been unemployed since 1985 (30yrs unemployed)
u seem intoxicated from TANoid stipends

According to the NBS which happens to be the custodian of any statistical reference in Nigeria, the current percentage of unemployed youths stands at 54% .The population demographics also showed that youths occupy a hefty 60% of the total population sample.

From the above we can infer that Nigeria with an estimated population of 170 million, with youths accounting for about a 102 million, an estimated 55 million youth are unemployed while about 47 million are employed (graduate and non graduate ).

Yes the numbers are quite alarming but all hope is not lost cos recent years has gradually seen an improvement in the numbers of jobs created. If the tempo is sustained, in a couple of years our unemployment rate figures will greatly improve . . .

I leave you all with the article below . . . .

Good News: Nigeria Records 85 Per Cent Employment In First Half Of 2014 – NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Nigeria recorded 85 per cent employment in the first half of 2014.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Statistician-General of the Federation, Dr Yemi Kale, in Abuja on Tuesday.

“In both the first and second quarter of 2014, over 85 per cent of employment was made up of the three cadres of managerial, professional, technical, clerical and related office workers”.

According to the statistician-general, the managerial, professional and technical cadre recorded 1,085,071 employees, representing 34.25 per cent of the total number of employed in the first quarter.

He said the figure saw a rise to 1,091,096 employees, representing 34.62 per cent of the total in second quarter.

Kale said that those employed as operatives were 943,652, representing 29.78 per cent of the total employed in first quarter and 930,507, representing 29.53 per cent in second quarter.

He also added that operative and clerical and related office workers made up of 679,173, representing 21.43 per cent in first quarter, but the figure slightly reduced to 672,714 or 21.35 per cent recorded in second quarter.

“By economic activity, education (private) was the greatest employer in the formal sector, with 1, 573,082 employees; it made up 49.64 per cent of the total employed in the first quarter.

“It increased marginally by 0.43 per cent or 6,771 employees in the second quarter to reach 1,579,854 or 50.13 per cent of the total”.

He said that the manufacturing sector recorded 503,023 or 15.87 per cent of total formal employment.

According to the statistician-general, the sector declined by 2.64 per cent to employ 489,273 or 15.54 per cent of the total employed in the formal sector in second quarter.

“The main driver of the overall decline in formal employment in the second quarter came from the professional, scientific and technical services.

“In these sectors, the 107,986 workers or 3.41per cent of the total were employed in the first quarter.

“But they declined by 49.35 per cent to 54,697 or 1.74 per cent of the total employed in the second quarter.

“The greatest was Administrative and Support Services, which increased by 34.85 per cent from the 16,592 employees recorded in the first quarter to 73,145 in the second”, Kale stated.

LRNZH:
You no sabi read? CBN talk say 8 out of every 10 young person for Nigeria no get work inside 2014.
Read the article again
You should be the one to read the article again. The person who made the statement, made it on a personal capacity so stop saying CBN said and what she said is that 70% of youths are either emoloyed or unemployed. That still doesn't give a picture of the unemployment rate. In my little town in Anambra state, I can assure yiu that the unemployment rate is less than 4% and nobody from where I come from will be technically unemployed qith a Bachelor's degree let alone Masters degree. What happened to self employment?

Your RAM must be small. Read this again.

LRNZH:
Graduate unemployment I expect to be about similar levels. Remember, non educated people or non graduates are more inclined to learn a trade and be employed even if it is menial. More graduates sit at home looking or waiting for good jobs.

In any case, from empirical observation, I would expect the CBN to have more accurate data on gaduate unemployment than on non graduates because we know the gaduation number in Nigeria and can estimate employment numbers from income taxes. But for non graduates, it is more difficult to estimate.
Do you agree?
By the way, you refused to ponder this question:

enigmaotr:

I don't know about you but I no longer think there is any more value to this thread. You can go ahead and chat with your friends but the OP doesn't prove much.

You created this thread for political reasons. That is why you failed to check current unemployment numbers or understand the context of unemployment under GMB's gov't before posting.

I hope you learnt something new today. I'm sure even jmaine whom I recognise as quite sensible was alarmed by the numbers he has seen.
