I love Agbalumo when I was young, but I never knew the English name then. I have been asking people around me the English of Agbalumo but nobody could tell me. I am so sure that 70% of Nigerians don't know the English name.

Start correcting people in your neighborhood that Agbalumo is called African Star Apple or White Star Apple in English. It is not cherry. 1 Like |

ibrocool:There is no way in hell it is African Star Apple. It has nothing in common with an apple. It is more like the Western Cherry with its mesocarp and seeds. |

Google African Star Apple and Cherry. You will see the difference. As a matter of fact, there are over 7,500 types of apple worldwide. Not all of them are similar. 1 Like |

ibrocool:According to Google, both are correct with also different botanical names . I am still of the opinion that the African Star Apple is appropriate for it, African cherry is more appropriate. They may not be wholly similar but at least they will have something in common for them to be classified as apples which Agbalumo clearly lacks |

I think its the same with Loquats or Persimmons. They are all stone fruits, with similar chewy feel. |
