Buhari did not say he attended higher institution. His INEC form, he said he has WASC. That is what he said is His qualification. So let him bring the WASC certificate. |

chronique:Have you read the constitution because if you have and if you comprehended what you read you will not write mere ability to read and write because the constitution says no such thing. Try to read it http://www.nigeria-law.org/ConstitutionOfTheFederalRepublicOfNigeria.htm#InterpretationCitationAndCommencement and comprehend it because clearly you have not read it or even worse you read and did not comprehend. I do not think the ability to read and write is trivial as you have so clearly demonstrated |

KwoiZabo:Do you actually understand English language? The letter from the principal, means attestation attached to a result he will submit with the army on its authenticity, which was the norm when Nigeria has some ethnic and professionalism. The problem is that young people today uses what is obtained today, by way of standard, morality a and poor quality standards to judge the past. But they are wrong. Respond to what you read and not what you wanted to believe. 1961 was an era when the British still run the schools and Igbos plus Yoruba runs the military after the British. The north dominance of the military only started almost after the 1966 counter coup and civil war. The argument over certificate is not only laughable to a neutral person, but insane as to the extent people can go when they are desperate and cornered. Let's assume and agree with PDP that Buhari did not attend secondary school, but he did pass througb Sandhurst military school England of all places. So that makes him a first degree holder. Which makes the argument over a school certificate a waste of time. Do you really need an expensive lawyers to tell you what your common sense and conscience can tell you for free. |

Eziachi:You are trying to sell soap to a pig. This is what the constitution says "School Certificate or its equivalent" means (a) a Secondary School Certificate or its equivalent, or Grade II Teacher’s Certificate, the City and Guilds Certificate; or (b) education up to Secondary School Certificate level; or (c) Primary Six School Leaving Certificate or its equivalent and - (i) service in the public or private sector in the Federation in any capacity acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for a minimum of ten years, and (ii) attendance at courses and training in such institutions as may be acceptable to the Independent National Electoral Commission for periods totalling up to a minimum of one year, and (iii) the ability to read, write, understand and communicate in the English language to the satisfaction of the Independent National Electoral Commission, and (d) any other qualification acceptable by the Independent National Electoral Commission; It does not even say what grades/subjects for those who full under subsection a. Which can and will be interpreted to mean sitting the exam. Subsection b can be interpreted to mean completing school without even taking the exam Without showing certificate Buhari clearly meets standard b or c. |

I was responding to the section of the constitution quoted by the APC spokesperson and the implied logic from that explanation, simple meant "so long as a person can read and write,to the satisfaction of the electoral commission,or has a primary school leaving certificate and has worked in the public sector for about 10 yrs". If a primary school leaver works as a receptionist in the public service and doesn't rise above the post of a secretary to one of the heads of department in that ministry or parastatal, and spends 10 yrs in that office,He or She is qualified to contest as a candidate in an election. That's what it simply means. My question to you is this: do you think such a person would be capable of piloting the affairs of a Nation like Nigeria? omonnakoda: |

chronique:My reply to you would be ;that is the purpose of the election. Let the people whose affairs he seeks to pilot make that determination. One person's opinion is important but not crucial. The presidency is a political position not a technical one. There is nothing specific in a university education that prepares anyone to pilot the affairs of Nigeria. Your interpretation of "IMPLIED LOGIC"( whatever that means ) derived fro the provision i quite different from mine. I would rather your hypothetical secretary govern my affairs than a Youth Corper. The time and place to determine what qualifications are required has come and gone we now have rules. Your hypothetical scenario is irrelevant in this case. The whole purpose of having rules is to avoid conflict. We have rules let us follow them. |

I understand very well and all I'm saying is that,in a country like Nigeria where illiteracy is high(even among the so called educated ones) and sentiments of my religion and tribe comes into electing a leader,it's very easy for us to make the wrong decisions. The constitution has to be visited again and the requirements for people seeking elective offices, has to be upgraded. Only then, can we be sure of having the right pool of candidates to pick from. Majority of the people holding elective positions today,do not have that sound academic background and it is evident in how the nation is being governed. omonnakoda: |

Jesusloveyou:If he had more than that it would be in the inec qualifications published but INEC recognizes SSCE that is what they wrote there and as it stands he did not even have that. |

chronique:How do you define "Illiteracy" What is "Sound academic background"? Exactly How or why is this relevant or necessary to holding political office? What is the basis for saying that; The constitution has to be visited again and the requirements for people seeking elective offices, has to be upgraded. . Have you got any data? Why NOW ![]() What you seem to be saying is illiteracy is high in Nigeria and we need to make rules to exclude illiterates from governing so only a tiny portion of the population will be eligible to govern. Do you see such a rule being democratically enacted? ,to entrench a government of the inferior by the superior? Shall we exclude illiterates from the process of revisiting the constitution? With all your presumed education you are very light on critical analytic skills but very heavy on OPINIONS even when there is no evidential underpinning |

Eziachi:No. You are the one who did not understand. Let me give you a scenario: Jude sought admission to be admitted to a university and he got one with a fake result He was fortunate to scale through the school, graduated with Bsc and still went for his masters with the same fake o 'level certificate He got a job and worked with his two university certificates and the fake o.levels cert. After like 10yrs in service, he decided to change his job and the new employee decided to do due dilligence on his certification and it was then discovered that the O' levels Cert (which is the basis of other higher certification is fake/non-existent) are we now going to say since he has been able to obtain his two university certification, the o level' cert is of no relevant? No sir. "Ex nihilo, nihili fit' (You can not build something on nothing) Even the bible says when the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do? If you build a skyscraper on a shaky foundation, it is bound to collapse. If truly Buhari does not have O 'levels, it means he was not qualified in the first instance to be admitted into the military, hence Everything he has achieved in the army is nothing but fraud, hence null and void since you cannot build legality on illegality. 2. Buhari deposed to affidavit that he has his original certificates (i beleive WASC inclusive since that is what he filled in INEC forms) with the millitary which the formal has vehemently denied. which means he lied under oath outrightly. He is liable for perjury (He has to prove that Millitary lost the credentials) Well he said he will address press. I only hope he has a good position, otherwise, the old man is playing with 14yrs imprisonment unless it is glossed over. The evil men did... I wish him good luck (not Jonathan) 3. In the form |

olaboy001:I really wish I understand you. Are you in anyway insinuating that buhari's credentials were destroyed by fire or water?? ok, lets assumed this is true, where is the court affidavit obtained from the court when the fire or water incident occurred. or there were no court operating at that time? MIND YOU: The affidavit presented by buhari to INEC is in compliance with the law - the electoral guidelines (and the form filled by each candidate) where they are required to attach copies of their credentials, sworn an affidavit to confirm that your credentials are true as declared. Its not an affidavit for lost of documents. My problems with buhari arises from his ugly past, his age, the none ideological APC, his current political friends - with ugly past and corrupt tendencies, and his certificates saga - the current unraveled of his said "fraudulent entry" into the Nigerian army. Also, this is not about APC/PDP, North and South, Christian and Muslim. Its about POSTERITY, its about precedent, its about respect for the constitution of the land, its about equality before the law, its about the FUTURE OF OUR UNBORN CHILDREN - THE NEXT GENERATION. WHATEVER we do or did not do today will live to hunt us for good or bad long after we might have gone. |
