Please, Help... Key Won't Start Car (Accord 2004). by lanray88(m): 9:15pm On Jan 21, 2015
Good evening, everyone.

Straight to the point, I got in to head home but the key wouldn't get the car started or enter ignition (I have noticed its been kind'a stiff for a while before it eventually picks).

Rewire's conclusion and suggestion: The car keys might have fallen a lot of times thereby causing damage to the threading on it; and that, automatically causes the key slot on the steering to get faulty.
He advised that I get the key slot on the steering fixed.

Question: Please, I'll like to know where and how much I can get that done within lagos.

All suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks house.

Btw: car is a 2004 Accord.

This fault is common with 2004 Honda Accords, ive had to battle this countless times. The key slot in your car is faulty, sometimes dirt and some other residues causes the malfunction. What you need to is to have your rewire remove it and take it to folks that rearrange/reset the slot pins. The tricky part is if its not done properly, any key will be able to turn your ignition. You have to insist it is taken to the right place. I am sure you can find good repairers in Olowu (Ikeja), Ladipo (Mushin) and Oyingbo. The cost will vary but you should be good with 5k thereabout.

@wagazala:

Thanks bro, really appreciate your comment. The rewire guy said he'll have to remove it and go fix it at Willoughby (Hope I got the spelling right) and I should budget 20-25k! cheesy

In my head, I was like... "For where!! When Nairaland never shut down!!!" grin

@baconline:

Thanks. You mean it shouldn't be more than 2k fixing the key slot?

And oops... I forgot to add, the key is programmed type and not faulty though.

Thanks for the comments. smiley

You are welcome bro, 25k too much for fixing. wink Make sure he takes your extra key along and they ensure both of the keys work. My extra key stopped working after mine was fixed, it couldn't turn on the ignition.

@pek:

Unfortunately, I'm in Lagos but then, thanks for helping me spoil market for him. Now, I've got a good idea of its cost implication.

@wagazala:

Bruv, I'm in Ilupeju but getting to your guy's place at Gbagda shouldn't be a problem (or better yet, you could help me with his digits) so he'd place me in good and proper hands.

Thanks once again. smiley

Ok, I know this is long dead and done with but I couldn't help make the following remarks...

I met up with Dapada (a re-wire contact I got from @wagazala) and met an nice individual. He was highly professional, jovial yet straight. He got it fixed within 2 hours and it's been working perfectly so far with no signs of any alterations from its previous state.

Hopefully, it doesn't develop any faults in that department again; and to @wagazala, thanks sir and I really appreciate it. Thanks to everyone that viewed the thread, commented and made contributions one way or the other. Appreciate y'all. smiley
