Onwuliri tasks ministries,
parastatals to showcase FG’s projects in Imo
ARTICLE | JANUARY 22, 2015 - 2:57PM
by Val Okara
The Minister of State for
Education, Prof. Viola Onwuliri,
Wednesday challenged Heads of
Federal Government (FG)
Ministries and Parastatals in
Imo State to showcase the
projects carried out by President
Goodluck Jonathan’s
administration in the State.
Onwuliri who gave the advice at the meeting she held with Association of Heads of Federal Government
Ministries and Parastatals at the Federal Secretariat, Owerri, observed that most of the projects executed
by the Federal Government in the State were not properly showcased and identified.
She therefore urged them to ensure they lived up to their responsibility in letting the people of the State
to see and know the laudable Federal Government projects.
The Minister observed that lack of publicity of these projects created loophole which the state government
cashed in on to hijack some projects as well as present the FG as having done nothing for the people of
the state.
She identified some of the projects done by the FG in the state to include the new ICT Centre and new
Faculty of Law Building in Imo State University, Owerri and the Administrative Building and Laboratory
built by FG at Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo.
Other projects she cited include the School of Environmental Technology, Department of Dental
Technology and Engineering Department, all in FUTO; the Twin Story Classroom Building sponsored by
the Federal Ministry of Education through UBEC in the 305 wards in the state,
the Architecture
Department, the Auditorium and Rectors office all built at the Federal Polytechnic Nekede, some classroom
blocks at the Federal College of Education Owerri as well as the New Amenity, House Officers Quarters
and new Mortuary Complex at the Federal Medical Center, Owerri.
The minister listed some of the projects under construction to include Vocational Skills Acquisition Centre
at Mgbee, Orlu , the Multi-billion naira Grain Silos (an Agro Storage Facility ) at Ezinachi Okigwe.
Its a shame that after denying that there were no 305 schools, the same people have turned around to not only accept the fact that the schools exist but to claim it for Jonathan. God will punish all of you.

I remember when the law building collapsed under construction and these same people were all over the media condemning Okorocha but alas they are now claiming it as Jonathan's handwork.

Okorocha is just showmanship — Udenwa

As the head of the President’s re-election team in Imo State, can we know the chances of the President in your state where the governor, Rochas Okorocha is believed to have performed well?

Rochas has not done well in Imo. Just compare the amount of money that is coming into the state and what we have on ground.

Imagine the type of investments that have been done. Are there basic economic investments in Imo State for the past three and half years? Has there been any investment that would boost the economy? It is not by building conference centres. All he has been doing is showmanship.

One of the projects the present administration has undertaken in Imo State is the building of new general hospitals. We have these general hospitals already existing. At least in my time we had about 21 general hospitals in 27 local government areas. He built so much general hospitals when existing ones have not been well equipped. The present administration is so much concerned about showmanship.

Even the so called free education is not free because parents pay indirectly. Parents are paying more than what they were paying in the past. You have registration fee, you have the acceptance fee, you have this and that. At the end it is more than what you’re supposed to be paying.

That was why he announced in November last year that the fees would be abolished. If you now say you want free education at tertiary institution level where does it happen in the world? Where and where? And when you say free education, to who?

It is either if you’re saying free education to all Imo indigenes, it means it is free to them wherever they are in the country. There are a lot of deceits going on. And we are definitely going to expose them.

When are you going to expose these alleged deceits?

Having commenced our campaign on January 19, 2015, we will then expose the tissue of lies Rochas has been feeding our people. It is wrong to believe that our people love him. Most Imo people are already beginning to understand. They’re already beginning to understand.

Sustenance from government

What you’re seeing is a lot of people who depend on the government for their daily bread.

There is hunger in the land. There is so much hunger in Imo State today. So whoever is getting some little sustenance from the government is bound to tell you that he is popular.

What do you want him to say? But I can tell you that when the chips are down most of the people working in this government will vote against the governor and against the APC. His second term ambition is a complete day dream. He is not coming back as governor

On APC administration in Imo

You can deceive people some of the time but not all the time. A lot of eyes are beginning to open. Some of the roads you know, when he came he started roads left, right and centre. Ask me how many of these roads have been completed. Some of the roads that were even completed are already breaking down.

But, is that right? Go to Orlu town many houses were demolished without any compensation till today. Some are in court some have even won their cases. Why would a government do that?

Udenwa tried his best when he was there but Okorocha has dwarfed them all by extending development far into rural areas and giving power back to the masses. That is what democracy is all about. Udenwa is from Orlu urban area and his community of Amaifeke got at least 4 roads from Okorocha.

I’ll create 5,000 jobs for Imo youths – Ihedioha 0
BY OUR REPORTER ON JANUARY 23, 2015 POLITICS
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State, Emeka Ihedioha, has promised to create about 5, 000 jobs for youths when he takes over as governor by May 29, 2015.

The deputy speaker also vowed to restore the 10,000 jobs provided by former governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim.

Campaigning in Okigwe and Onuimo council areas, Ihedioha explained that he would create the jobs by ensuring that 15 youths from each political ward in the state would be given jobs with which they could take care of their families and not jobs, whose pay cannot take them home.

Apart from this, the PDP gubernatorial flag bearer said through the power substations he attracted to all parts of the state as the deputy speaker, his administration would also create more jobs for the greater number of Imo people.

He regretted that the victims of Ohakim’s job displacement had continued to wallow in avoidable economic pains since they were thrown into the labour market.

“I will create enough jobs for our people mainly by reactivating our technical colleges and I have already started this in my capacity as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives and my government will be one that you all will be proud of,” he stressed.

Ihedioha promised that he would restore the people’s value through the provision of qualitative education and which would be matched with the installation of a conducive environment for teaching and learning.

The Deputy Speaker accused the state government of shoddy execution of projects without adherence to due process, lamenting that a whopping N43 billion loan secured by the state government from the bank was wasted on frivolities.

Governor Rochas Okorocha built poor quality roads with shovels and wheelbarrows and these roads have not only become dilapidated few months after they were built but have become death traps.

Ihedioha, who also lashed at the governor for indiscriminate appropriation of lands in the state pledged to make education to have value once again by training teachers in English, Mathematics and arts to accelerate the interest of students in science subjects.

He urged all the party members to retire to their various wards, villages, kindred and communities, educate the rural dwellers why Okorocha should be rejected at the next governorship election.

Earlier, elder statesman and leader of the PDP in the state, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, said he joined in the campaign to remove Governor Rochas Okorocha from office because of the several lies he had told the people of the state.

He explained that the PDP leaders and members chose Ihedioha to be the next governor of the state “because we are fed up with the lies being told Imo people by Governor Rochas Okorocha on daily basis.”

@Ihedioha2015, wonderful thought provoking queries you have listed there. I for once want a viable opposition to ORO government. I may not be a fan of Ihedioha nor PDP, but I think he may give Rochas a run for his money come February. The same goes for Capt. Iheanacho whose industrialization manifesto I wholly support. The idea of supporting parties rather than individuals in Imo state has long faded away. Hence, I see both APC, PDP and APGA sharing the electoral spoils of our dear state. May God bless Imo.

Who gives a damn about Ohaji/Egbema/Oguta/Oru not improving much from what they are today by 2019? Because Imo state governors usually do showmanship provision of infrastructure in the state capital.

Eg, while there are no state libraries elsewhere in Imo state outside the state capital, present Imo governor demolishes the existing library in the state capital and builds another one there.

While there are no sports stadium outside the state capital, present Imo governor builds many more stadium-like structures in the state capital;

etc, etc.

If elected governor of Imo state, is Ihedioha not going to be worse than Okorocha regarding the obsession of spending most of Imo state money on development projects only in the state capital?

I have not seen Ihedioha make political bargains with other constituents in Imo state outside the state capital.

On a lighter mood: is a governor Ihedioha not going to build an underground Metro system in Owerri while the rest of Imo state is being washed away by rain floods due to absence of simple rural/urban drainage systems?
