Straight red in Spain is always one match ban, only if a special report was made by the ref. grin cheesy
I already stated that its gonna be a one-match ban for the red. But it seems it's gonna be more for misconduct.

How many more assists does Messi need to break the all time la liga assists record?

But I think Penaldo's case would be different because he would (that is if the ref states it on his match report) be charged for misconduct. And with that, he might get a 3 match ban like the one handed to him against Bilbao at the San Mames last season.

Nevertheless, the ref committee would still meet to discuss the extent of the ban. But, had the ref indicated misconduct in the match report, it would have been a sure 3-match ban. But as it stands, he might still get the 3-match ban, but the chances of him getting that is slim.

firstly the ref makes no report in his match report,
secondly the elche guy has come out saying he forgives ronaldo and that ronaldo shouldnt be banned.
florentino perez must really be pulling his weight and throwing good money around.

It would be so funny if the case is not revisited. Where is Uscables? The guy no allow us rest when Messi was provoked by a player and tried to retaliate, maybe he would have an answer to why their golden boy got the 9th red card in his carrier for turning a boxer.

You are wrong. Try and remember the 90s era. Fact is, there were so many mega stars during that period and that was why it kept changing hands. C Ronaldo cannot even be compared to Ronaldo de Lima's left leg. He can't compare to George Weah's left thigh. Then came along Rivaldo and much later Ronaldinho. Even before the 90s, we had Marco van Basten. Check out Marco's scoring ratio (devoid of silly penalties). As far as I am concerned, Messi remains a standout; far above C Ronaldo. But he got himself caught up in a useless arms race with C Ronaldo (engineered by Real Madrid). It was Real Madrid's idea to TRY and prop up a "competitor" to Messi. I remember an interview Guardiola did back in 2010. He said "I feel sorry for those trying to claim Messi's throne".
Well, for me the game is very different nowadays. Football till the 90s was less physical, more of flair and technique. The game itself has morphed, rules have changed somewhat, and players have to combine both physical and technical attributes.

I remember the old days when a Baggio would play with a hamstring for four matches, and still be able to put away five goals past Nigeria, Spain, and Bulgaria. Nowadays the sheer running would aggravate his injury by the time he plays one game, and he would be done. That's probably why injuries are a lot more serious nowadays, despite advances in medicine and the almost magical recoveries.

You also have to consider coaching methods, which have moved largely in the direction of orchestrated plays, as opposed to the free-flowing approach of the 70s and 80s. A typical coach today sets out the field in pretty much the same way it's done in American football. All the plays are rehearsed, including player positioning and movement, as opposed to the past, where a lot depended on the player's skill and reading of the game, as much as the coach's interpretation of how he expects his team to play.

As much as you may not like Ronaldo, you have to recognize his physical abilities. They surpass most of the players of this generation. He's always able to stamp his physical authority on games, right from the time he was at United. If he wasn't that good, he wouldn't have won all that he did. After all, other people are playing this game.

Likewise Messi and his genius, vision, and abilities. He almost plays football for fun. For me, their competition is really what have made the last few years enjoyable for me. That's why no one else has even come close to the Ballon D'Or, these fellows make the voting an almost non sequitur, despite neither of them winning anything noteworthy for their national sides.

Breaking Telmo Zarra's 60-year old record, Messi became yesterday the player with most Liga braces (77) in history.

Messi breaks another of Zarra’s records: 77 braces

His statistics are remarkable. He’s scored 20 goals or more in each of the last eight seasons. He’s already provided 14 assists, as many as in all of last season.

The numbers don’t lie. Whether out on the right flank, where he often moves during games, or through the middle, where he sits closer to goal, Messi appears to be back to his best. In 28 games so far this season he’s scored 31 goals and provided 14 assists.

Against Elche he also broke another historic league record. The Argentine has now scored a brace in 77 matches, an achievement that breaks Zarra’s record of 76. Cristiano Ronaldo is currently far behind on 57.

As impressive as his figures are, I suspect that Messi’s true greatness will become even clearer in time. His achievements will be legendary by the time he retires. He has already scored 20 goals or more in seven consecutive seasons. Over those years he’s scored 23, 34, 31, 50, 46, 48 and 21 goals, plus those still left to come this season. His play has led to a goal on no less than 599 occasions in the 550 games he’s played for Barcelona, scoring 430 and assisting on another 169.

Since the incident with Luis Enrique in the Anoeta changing room, Messi’s play has been stellar. Aside from the game in the Bernabéu where he didn’t perform at a high level he’s played his best in both the key games against Atletico Madrid and the group-deciding match against PSG . He ran all over Sevilla, provided the key assist at Villarreal and played well in Valencia. He’s also offering more tactical flexibility. Whereas in years gone by he’s played closer to goal it’s now not unusual to see him dropping back to the right wing. And in spite of his sporadic retching incidents, he looks fresher and stronger – something that suggests he’s increasingly confident in his game.

Yes the game has changed, and made it easy for people like Ronaldo to kick this felele and bamboozle goalkeepers. Do you think Ronaldo could try that technique with the balls used in the 90s (speaking of real footballs like the Adidas Tango, etc) without developing a hamstring tear? I know Ronaldo was engineered. He's not a natural like Messi. If not, he wouldn't have played his first 26 Champions League matches without netting a single goal.

And that thing you said about Baggio. That showed how much dedicated the players of those days were; and how less they are actors like the present ones. I mean, these days players get hit by a ball and roll around for 5 mins. I have been hit by the balls of those days and just sucked it in and played on without as much as a wince.
