Nigeria Airways has taken delivery of all four
of the Airbus A310-200s it ordered. The
aircraft were officially handed over to Mr
O.A. Oshikoya, Director of Legal Affairs and
Company Secretary of Nigeria Airways, by Mr
Roger Béteille, Executive Vice President and
General Manager of Airbus Industrie, at a
ceremony in Toulouse recently. Two aircraft
were ferried to Lagos on 20 December last
year and the two others in mid-January.
Nigeria Airways, which was the first African
airline to order the A310, began operating the
aircraft in December on the airline’s routes
from Nigerian cities to major European
destinations such as Paris, Rome, Frankfurt,
and London. They will also be used on
domestic and regional services – mostly
along the West African coast route – where
they will add capacity. Seating 18
passengers in first class and 207 in economy,
the A310s will introduce new standards of
wide-body passenger comfort and freight
capacity on Nigeria Airways’ network. The
aircraft are powered by Pratt and Whitney
JT9D-7R4Es. Including the Nigerian aircraft,
45 A310s have now been delivered to 12
airlines.
