I often see people referred to Samoyed as Eskimo dog, both dogs are two different breed with similar look. The Sammie is much larger than Eskies with shorter and softer coats, Eskies being more aggressive with guard instinct tend to bark at every noise/sound while Sammie are calculative. 1 Like

Samoyeds rarely bark at intruders - but it's not that they're calculative. They just don't have any guarding instincts. They love people naturally. |

So how do I distinguish one from the other? Cos I own a Samoyed and she just won't stay still for me to get a good shot of her..How do I recognize an eskimo when I see one? What's the most distinguishing feature of both breeds? |

@ seun I agree with OP that samoyeds are calculative. My Flatmate has a samoyed (Rooney  ) and he does not bark until he is clear with the source of the noise. and for every stranger, that dog barks like mad. Infact he would also charge at the stranger. but it is not a guard dog as after 1min of familiarization, it will start to play with the stranger.1 Like |

My esky is always barking at the slighthest movement and it does its watch dog job properly 1 Like |
