I actually even saw this reported on BBC news a few minutes ago. Jonathan's last ditch effort to postpone the election has now been thrown out. Scroll to the bottom to see revelation of Okorocha 'man-marking' Mimiko. Comical grin grin grin grin PDP has to be watched and scrutinised before they pull another 19-is-greater-than-15 abracadabra grin

How The Council Of State Rejected President Jonathan’s Proposal To Postpone General Elections
Our presidency sources at the meeting said that all the former Heads of State spoke in favor of holding the general elections on February 14th and February 28th 2015, as scheduled by the electoral commission.
BY SAHARA REPORTERS, NEW YORKFEB 05, 2015

Following a grueling eight-hour meeting on Thursday,Nigeria’s National Council of State emphatically rejected a proposal by President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone the 2015 general elections.

The Council of Nigeria

The meeting was Mr. Jonathan’s final open effort to rescue an election that seems to have got away from him very quickly.

Under the Nigerian constitution, the Council advises executive branch, and is chaired by the President. Other members are the Vice-President, who is the Deputy Chairman; all former Presidents of the Federation and all former Heads of the Government of the Federation; all former Chief Justices; the President of the Senate; the Speaker of the House of Representatives; all State Governors; and the Attorney-General of the Federation.

Also at Thursday’s meeting was the chairman of the Independent National Election Commission (INEC).

President Jonathan cited security concerns and lack of preparedness by INEC as his reasons for seeking postponement of the elections.

Our presidency sources at the meeting said that all the former Heads of State spoke in favor of holding the general elections on February 14th and February 28th 2015, as scheduled by the electoral commission. Muhammadu Buhari, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, also spoke calmly but firmly against the proposal.

However, when it was Jega’s time to speak, he shocked the meeting by disclosing that just before he entered the Council chambers, the president’s National Security Advisor, Col. Sambo Dasuki (Rtd), had handed him a report saying that the security services could not guarantee security during the elections. Dasuki, he stated, emphasized that 14 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the North East would be compromised.

Presidency sources inside the meeting tell SaharaReporters that Jega responded the security questions, stating “We are better off [more secure] than in 2011” elections. He also argued that the security situation in 14 LGAs should not interfere with acountry of over 700 such councils.

Professor Jega also said that all Permanent Voting Cards (PVCs) were ready for voters and that their availability should no longer be considered an issue. Our sources say that when Jega finishing giving his presentation, the majority of the room clapped in support and respect.

One source disclosed to SaharaReporters that after Jega’s presentation, aides to President Jonathan sent a signal to Ijaw leader, Edwin Clark, Alex Ekwueme and Senator Okunrounmu to release a “dossier” that was in the possession of the group against Jega. That group then quickly organized a press conference in Abuja to demand Jega’s removal from INEC and get himarrested and tried for “treason”.

Contrary to Jega’s positive reception at the Council of State, the group, in a fall-back strategy the president seemed to have approved of in advance, claimed that the INEC boss had colluded with some Northern “leaders” to cheat the South of the presidency.

After today’s meeting the Council of State decided that INEC and the security agencies must hold meetings leading to the elections in order to harmonize and coordinate their activities to ensure that all elections are free and fair starting this month.

The meeting then nominated Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State to brief the press about its decisions. Governor Rochas Okorocha strategically joined Mimiko at that event to ensure that nothing was added to, or taken away from what Nigerians needed to know.

Yes of course. I have never ever followed anyone to make the feeble excuse that GEJ is "kind-hearted" President thrown in above his level and "let down" by "bad advisors". I believe that GEJ is a very callous man who is not at all above the most cruel level of cynicism and immorality in the quest to get his ways.Look back in the archives and you will see I stated , as far back as 2011, that GEJ cannot be a "Good man" when he allowed Gbenga Daniel to throw an entire state into confusion, while still governor, with the illegal impeachment carried out so Daniel could get his 'retirement fund' packaged as a bond. OGD wanted to saddle the incoming government with a huge debt that will make life tough for many millions yet GEJ did not care about this. Instead GEJ's only response was to make Gbenga Daniel his 2011 SW campaign coordinator as the impeachment saga raged on !!

I also remember pointing out how morally bankrupt GEJ is with how he ordered the then IGP (Ringim) and Justice Minister (Adoke Bello) to organise the 'acquital' and release of Teslim Folarin from a murder charge so that Folarin could then be flown on a Presidential Private jet to deliver delegate vote at the PDP primaries for GEJ's victory against Atiku. GEJ had no thought for the family of the murdered man gaining justice and the concept that an alleged killer like Folarin be made to face justice . GEJ was only concerned about himself. There are a million examples that show the cynical, calculating and highly callous nature of GEJ. Personally, I believe GEJ does not value the life of others above his own ambition and selfish agenda. The Chibok girls, our Army men/women and the over 15,000.00 Nigerians murdered by Boko Haram are victims of GEJ's callousness.

This is all to show that GEJ has lost this election even before it's conducted. INEC under Jega has proved that he cannot be influenced by the ruling party. That's why GEJ is jittery. Even if he succeeds in postponing the election, he'll end up losing the few votes he could have gotten on feBuhari 14th angry cheesy grin

Shame on GEJ!

Oh yeah! Isn't it also obvious that Jonathan is behind boko haram to use and destabilize the NE?

I watched the press briefing by Edwin Clark and some shameless old buffoons on AIT this morning and I was so ashamed our so called elder statesmen could be used to further divide nigeria along ethnic lines accusing Jega of promoting Fulani agenda in favour of Buhari.

Very shameful!

Now people are getting to hear and reason along my lines,* when I said months ago that GEJ is behind boko haramhuh Remember when they kidnapped those school girls 200+ of them who would pull that kind of stunt and get away with it? It's an impossible feat for even an action film director! Without the consent of higher authority to back them up - he is behind the blood shed* and he is responsible for the death of my friend Lt., Col amanze- he is more heartless and wicked then asari dokubo but has a sheepish face, and this guise makes people feel his aides are giving him wrong advise- all of that, is a cover up- have you people forgotten the increase in petrol price "under the guise of subsidy removal" when they were trying to legalise stealing from the common man - until we went to the streets and said no? He didn't even blink a lid for weeks - and you tell me that kind of person is soft hearted? Think twice people-
