Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan appealed for more US help in fighting Boko Haram, as the Islamists struck again on Saturday and called for a boycott of upcoming general elections.

The head of state for the first time claimed direct links between the Sunni radicals who have been waging a six-year insurgency in Nigeria and the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.

He told the Wall Street Journal in an interview: “Are they (the United States) not fighting ISIS? Why can’t they come to Nigeria?

“They are our friends. If Nigeria has a problem, then I expect the US to come and assist us.”

But Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said there are no plans to send US troops to Nigeria.

“I can tell you that there are no plans as I speak here to send unilaterally, to send or to add US troops into Nigeria. There are no US troops operating in Nigeria,” he told reporters.

Kirby said the United States was in the early phases of helping establish a multi-national task force of African nations to help Nigeria defeat Boko Haram.

Jonathan’s comments were published as hundreds of Islamist fighters invaded the northeastern city of Gombe, firing heavy guns and throwing leaflets calling for locals to shun the elections.

The attack, which began at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT), saw residents flee and the authorities impose a 24-hour lock-down in the city, which Boko Haram has repeatedly targeted.

Boko Haram has opened up two new fronts in its campaign to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria, pushing into neighbouring Niger last week and for the first time on Friday, Chad.

It has also increased the frequency and intensity of its attacks on northern Cameroon. The increasing regional threat has led to the deployment of troops from all three countries, reflecting security fears.

Jonathan and his government have long sought to portray, the insurgency as being fuelled by outside forces and he has previously called Boko Haram “Al-Qaeda in west Africa”.

Critics have interpreted his attempt to blame foreigners for the violence that has left more than 13,000 dead and displaced more than one million since 2009 as a diversion from national failings.

Boko Haram, which loosely translates from the Hausa language widely spoken in northern Nigeria as “Western education is forbidden”, started out in 2002 as a largely peaceful Islamist movement.

But it has been transformed in the last six years from a rag-tag group of guerrilla fighters into a conventional army, seizing territory and dozens of towns in three northeast Nigerian states.

The group has generally not been thought to have any direct operational links with overseas jihadis, although some fighters may have received training from Al-Qaeda-linked militants in north Africa.

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau has previously mentioned IS group leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in videos but has not pledged allegiance to the outfit.

The Nigerian group’s tactics of extreme violence and mass casualty hit-and-run raids, bombings and suicide attacks also predated those carried out by the IS group.

But Jonathan told the US newspaper that Nigeria had intelligence reports that Boko Haram was receiving “training and funds” from IS militants.

Any direct US military intervention would constitute a marked shift in Nigeria’s attitude towards the conflict. It has repeatedly insisted that it can take on the militants alone.

The United States has provided surveillance and intelligence specialists, as well as aerial drones, to help in the high-profile hunt for 219 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram last April.

But bilateral ties have since been fraught over Washington’s refusal to provide military hardware because of concerns about human rights abuses in the Nigerian army.

The latest attack in Gombe, south of Boko Haram’s centre of operations, coincided with the original date for presidential elections, at which Jonathan is seeking a second four-year term.

The vote was postponed last Saturday after the electoral commission was advised that regional forces needed more time to tackle the insurgents and would not be able to provide security on polling day.

But the six-week deadline to effectively secure and stabilise the northeast and allow hundreds of thousands of people displaced by the violence to vote has been seen as unrealistic.

Jonathan on Friday maintained that postponing the elections until March 28 would give the security agencies time to “clean up” the three states worst hit by the insurgency for voting to take place.

Chai! Cluelessness in a new dimension.

To serious issues, it was obvious, even to the blind that combating the insurgency for six weeks is unrealistic as they could not be defeated for the last six years. That the deadly group has gain strength overtime is as a result of the lackadaisical attitude of the Federal Government towards the deadly sect.

One of the best decisions ever made by the present administration for the PDP, was the rescheduled 2015 General Elections.

We are not getting it right somewhere. Either the government is the spearhead of the current push by BH into Gombe or the saboteurs want to continue blackmailing Nigerians with an excuse to postpone the general elections again

Boko Haram calling for boycott of elections the way PDP and Jonathan called for postponem[ent of election.
Today I saw an unconfirmed story about this, but initially I disregards it cos there was no source of the info, seeing this news from punch newspaper, it confirm the initial reports withoutsource

The military started operations in Sambisa forest and then explosion follows in Maiduguri, Yobe and now Gombe while our dear troops are busy in d forest

HOT NEWS!! – GET READY FOR WAR, AND THIS IS FROM THE SPY FILES!!

A very highly respectable Nigerian sent me an alarming message this morning (08/02/2015). The message reads like this:

“I got this information from a source within the security. One of Ali Modu Sheriff’s close confidants is now on the run in Guinea Conakry. He contacted the Nigerian Embassy in Guinea that he would like to speak with a Nigerian security personnel but not the military or SSS as he doesn’t trust them, because they are part and parcel of the Boko Haram crisis. He said SAS is one of the real financiers of Boko Haram, and currently he has a lot of army and SSS officers on his payroll. He informed that three containers are arriving in Nigeria through Port Harcourt with weapons destined for Boko Haram. A man called Hon. Chuma Nzeribe is going to clear them with the assistance of the SSS and the military, who will escort the contents to Boko Haram territory. He said the containers were registered as building materials, but in actual sense weapons are concealed inside them. He gave the containers numbers and the contents in each container. The government is trying to cover up. He also supplied the names and account numbers of all military and SSS officers on the payroll of SAS. I was able to trace who that Chuma Nzeribe is. He is a former Reps member from Anambra State and he has a lot record of criminal activities against his name.”

My take on this leaked message: Nigerians and the rest of the world witnessed a shocking treasonable event yesterday night. INEC called it shifting of the elections date by 6 weeks, but in reality it was a military coup organised by Jonathan, PDP, Sambo Dasuki, and the service chiefs. Professor Jega was under immense duress to sabotage the elections. After so much comings and goings, he had no choice but to succumb. Mark my words, there will NEVER be elections of any kind that will be held in Nigeria under Jonathan's rule. This is because he and his cabal know all too well that they will never win any free and fair elections. Furthermore, holding elections means surrendering power voluntarily to Nigerians. This, Jonathan and his cabal are not willing to do under any circumstance. Remember not long ago, David Mark had this to say: “There is no questions of elections, it is not even on the table now. We are in a state of war.” Not long after that, the self proclaimed bastard Doyin Okupe, said this: “We rather hand over power to the military by engineering a coup than hand it to Muhammadu Buhari.” On 22/01/2015, the so called National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, came all the way to London and announced at Chatam house that it was better to cancel the forthcoming general elections because of security concerns.

In view of the above leaked memo from the spy files, and the reasons given for the cancellation of the general elections, I advise Nigerians to be prepared for the worst. Make no mistake about it, the next 6 weeks is NOT going to be period of security enhancement for Nigerians. We will instead witness unprecedented killings, bombings, destruction of infrastructure, and property by the marauding Boko Haram terror barbarians with their partners in crime MEND, and MASSOB. This will then be used as another excuse to permanently postpone elections, and allow the military to take over in the guise of an interim government.

My honest, urgent, and well informed advise to all Nigerians is to remain calm and focussed. Instead of causing violence through senseless demonstrations, which will achieve nothing but serve our enemies agenda, we must use this six weeks for mass mobilisation, to defend ourselves and ancestral land from total destruction. The Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) concept works. Let every community, village, town, and city mobilise its able bodied men over 18 to join their local CJTF. Let our people use already established local institutions like Masjids, Churches, Social Clubs, etc as rallying points.

It is now obvious Jonathan is looking for ways to put Nigeria under military occupation in order for him to remain in power. I sensed this last week when he declared in a church that "Boko Haram is trying to unleash terror on the entire country in the next few day" which necessitated military alliance going on in the North-east. Jonathan knows he is about to lose this election and ready to do anything to remain in power. The next few week will be an interesting week as he loses his grip on power.

I am seeing Lawrence Gbagbo scenario playing itself out in Nigeria again. If Jonathan likes himself and want to be there for his children for a long time, he should just let the election hold and accept the outcome. He may as well resign from office.

Jonathan is playing a script. Jonathan next line of script is to sabotage INEC by dismissing Jega and appoint a new Chairman who can play ball with him. Jonathan and PDP are not ready to allow free and fair election.

I doubt the Authencity of this news. If this news is true, then this is "unworthy" comment from the President considering the tempo of progress against the terrorists. But, i still question the authencity of it cox of the propaganda and media war against NA, GEJ and Nigeria itself.

The US is the last place I want Nigeria to seek help.
They are not as interested in Nigeria's stability as they appear unless they have a covert interest to reap.

It rather bothers them that we are still "managing" the ongoing war, their body language is akin to that of a woman doing shakara for a chyker she has had crush on, not wanting to appear to ready to accept an offer. They would wish this gets terribly out of hand so they could "offer" the so called help but this time not in Nigeria's term, but their own term which would might be too difficult to resist bearing in mind the hapless situation they hope we would have been, but Insha Allahu, Nigeria will prevail.

God bless the NA
