It may be widely believed that just as constant advertisement ensures the promotion of a product, so also is unrepentant propagation of propaganda, character assassination an integral part of politics. Thus the reason behind APC’s success in brainwashing some Nigerians. No doubt, we are all yet to see the Nigeria of our dream; and that’s why the clamour for change should ordinarily speak volume. But then, a lot of people are failing to realise that change can only suffice gradually. The path to true change since began on May 2010 when President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan took the centre stage. It therefore, sounds very worrisome that APC presented to us a change of 30 years backwards and some Nigerians are buying into it. I think that’s enough proof of their strong adversary to the concept of change we desire. There were 5 presidential candidates that showed interest in APC, and so they should have proved to us some level of sincerity in the matters of change by presenting to us any of the three candidates – different from Buhari or Atiku. On the contrary, however, APC simply chose to go by the recycling process. As a graduate of engineering, I so much love recycling when it matters to issues of environmental protection and waste-to-wealth advocacy. But then, I know that a material can hardly be recycled to its original and exact product. For instance, thermoplastic water bottles can be recycled into different products entirely – be it buckets, bowels, hangers, etc. In fact, trying to recycle to original product could be described as counterproductive. Similarly, the likes of Buhari could be recycled into the Nigeria system, but not as a President again. He can be useful in advisory. General Muhammadu Buhari was in charge of Nigeria 30 years ago, when many people of my age who now constitute a large percentage of the voting population, were not yet born. I recall that right from Nursery and Primary schools, we were being referred to as leaders of tomorrow. Does it mean all our teachers have been deceiving us? Quite appalling, we have read, heard and greatly witnessed the catalogue of problems bedevilling Nigeria. How then do you expect that a right thinking AiiKay will believe that Buhari is the Messiah we need? That’s very ridiculous! I think it’s good we realise that the complexity of Nigeria’s problems demands the change be gradual. The change has already been initiated in the office of the President and Vice President. We need to gradually move further. For instance, some persons might argue that David Mark has been doing well as Senate President, yet it constantly rings an annoying bell to me anytime I realise it’s still same David Mark that was the Governor of Niger State in 1984! Very many of them in the National Assembly and State Governors are in this category. We should diversify our desire for change. Let many of them retire and play advisory only. It must be categorically noted that the term advisory has no synonymous interpretation to god-fatherism. Thank God the bond holding some of the so called god fathers are being broken. A typical example is the recent ranting and childish display by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. We all know he’s retaliating to a denial of his intended grand commander. I so much had pity on APC when I heard them celebrating Obj’s support. As at when I became old enough to follow the happenings in Nigeria politics, the person I met was Obasanjo; and based on my own analysis, I place him on the top list of the worst Nigeria leaders. For instance, it could be a sin for anyone to describe the 2003 insult and drama that brought Obasanjo for a second term, as an election. The same could be said of 2007, which I was a JDPC election observer. I think Nigeria should rather celebrate the permanent exit of Obasanjo from the political manipulations in Nigeria. Of course, neither GEJ nor GMB – whoever wins – will give him space again. MY CONVICTION THAT GEJ WILL WIN Now permit me to reiterate my conviction towards the unavoidable win by Goodluck Jonathan. It cannot be denied that we have not gotten to the highest level under GEJ, but then a lot have been achieved. Nigeria has been better and shall continue to be better. All the achievements of the Jonathan administration are verifiable, but it’s very unfortunate that some have chosen to keep swimming in APC’s constant brainwashing. A few of my reasons are: We no longer spend days on the road for a supposed journey of hours, because several roads have been put to shape. The railway transportation, which we only read on books and movies, have now come to reality. Out of the 40 Federal Universities in Nigeria, GEJ alone has 12 to his credit within 4 years, while Obasanjo had only one for the whole of 8 years - Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun established March 2007. It might interest you to note that many of these new universities currently rank better than some older institutions in the country. But some confusionists will keep telling us that they are not being well funded. Yes power problem is no doubt the number one problem of Nigeria, but successful privatisation of the distribution and generation should be regarded as good move. The National Integrated Power Projects (NIPP) going on in different places is not hidden to anybody. The building of numerous Almajiri schools cannot be a fabricated story; and that is a long term solution to the Boko Haram saga. The agricultural reform is not just a story but a reality. All the programmes by SUREP are 100% real. The aviation success story was not fabricated. I have friends that have got one scholarship or the other, purely on merit bases. There are many more reasons for my conviction. You can agree by giving me more or disagree by questioning the authenticity of the stated. I also should not fail to acknowledge one very importance of APC – competition. For the ordinary Nigerians, political competition is to our own favour. So I encourage more genuine competition. Let more parties be as strong as PDP and APC, not a case of 14 Presidential Candidates while 12 are just imaginary. Thank you. AiiKay …airing his opinion and firm support for GEJ |
