Op.... Olokun is a "she" and not a "he"..
This generated something of an argument. Olokun is either gender it seems.

There is too much focus on gender these days. It started happening after the English invasion. Yoruba is a genderless language after all, which means such information was never of outmost importance.

Thats an erroneous view because african society is overwhelmingly patriarchal.

Yoruba is not an exception, males and females are not considered the same.

You just like arguing. What starfulx stated is truth Yoruba language doesn't recognise gender
Re: Olokun by tpiadotcom:
did I say it does?

My point was Yoruba is a patriarchal society, same as most of Africa.

you folks shouldnt try to sneak in some funny agendas here, seems like you want to introduce gender neutrality as part of your overall plan.

that is not african but maybe western.

besides, the thread is not about language.

if you want to prove your point, why dont you ask masquerades if they are gender neutral.

There's no gender inequality in Yoruba. There's division of functions and separation of powers. Women have their own cults too
Many women began cults and created positions for women alone

You obviously have many issues you want to discuss pertaining to gender.

Why dont you open a new thread for that instead of posting offtopic on this one.
