Our lecturer once asked us a question. He said ALL TOURISTS ARE TRAVELLER BUT NOT ALL TRAVELLERS ARE TOURIST. below are the different between Tourist and a Traveller.

1. A tourist doesn't mind being called a
tourist. A traveller does, very much.

2. A tourist wants to see all the sights. A
traveller wants to see some, but also to
find something interesting that isn't in
the guidebook.


3. A tourist tries foreign food but acts like
they're putting a grenade in their mouth.
A traveller eats the local food with
abandon and spends the next 3 days on
the toilet.

4. A tourist takes photos of all the famous
stuff. A traveller takes pictures of
ordinary people and things and is
rewarded by the locals with gratitude or
puzzlement.

5. A tourist will go to McDonalds in a
foreign country, with no shame. A
traveller will go there too but not tell
anyone.

6. Tourists tend to travel in large groups or
families. Travellers tend to travel solo,
or with one other person, thus NOT
BLOCKING THE PAVEMENT THANK YOU.

7. A tourist will learn a few words of the
local language. A traveller will too, but
act like they know more.

8. A tourist gets ripped off. A traveller
haggles.

9. Tourists (the British ones at least) get
drunk. Travellers also get drunk but
ensure their drinking money is going
directly to the local community.

10. Tourists go on holiday. Travellers go
travelling.

I thought i'm the only one.

I think i understand the differences. Travelers enjoy traveling as a hobby while tourists are on vacation and just want to have fun. I am more of a traveler so i understand.

that is a very technical question. the is a great different between them. all travellers are not tourist but all tourists are traveller. think about it

a tourist is one who goes to a location
and sets out to see mostly "the sites."
If I go someplace and have no desire to do
anything but just "be" there, then I am a
traveller.

Maybe you should use the word..'visitor' rather than 'traveler'

All tourists are travellers because they embarks on journeys, moving from one place to another.
A tourist is a person who travels to a place for vacation, pleasure/leisure, sight seeing, recreation, Adventure, research, sometimes business purposes, and so on.


But all travellers are not tourists.
Traveller is someone who embarks on a journey(short or long), travels from one place to another. The destination could be his home, working place, relatives place or anywhere.

For instance, if Im coming to Lagos right now from sokoto to see mr seun or justwise for a reason thats personal. On my way coming to Lagos, automatically im a traveller but not a tourist.

If you are going to work from Lagos to Abuja and you fly to and fro daily. On your way going to Abuja or coming back home in Lagos, you are a traveller not tourist.


Corp members posted to different states nationwide, on their way to orientation camp, they are travellers not tourists.

no. both of the visit. A traveller can be visiting on business and never see a single site. A tourist is someone travelling for pure enjoyment.
