he was locked up ℓ̊n prison where he had the opportunity to escape but refused because he thinks it was morally wrong.

he was later provided with poison to terminate his life, which he joyfully took.

now the question, was he executed or he committed suicide?

No,he didnt commit suicide....just that he's being assigned the work by the gods.. Out of his moral rule there is one that goes thus..Do not allow peoples thought judge your decision making rule...I think he was just trying not to violate the rule propagated by him..I BELIEVE THAT HE CHOOSE D MORAL RULE THAT BEST BEHOVE THE SITUATION THEN.....IF I SHOULD ESCAPE,AM DOING SOMETHING THAT IS MORALLY WRONG..IF I SHD ESCAPE I WILL DISOBEY MY PARENT,GUARDIANS AND SOCIETY AS A WHOLE(THOUGH THEY WANT HIM TO ESCAPE IN A VIOLENT WAY BUT HE REFUSES)..NOW LET ME GO BACK TO THE SITUATION ON GROUND.... TO ME HE WOULD HAVE BEEN THE BEST IDEA NOT TO HAVE TAKEN THE POISON..WHILE OTHER VIEW IT AS D BEST IDEA JUST BECAUSE IF HE REFUSES NOT TO BE POISON,HE WAS IN THE MIDST OF ENEMIES..THOUGH HE WAS LOVED BY THE SOCIETY BUT HATED BY THE RULERS..BUT ON HIS OWN HE BELIEVE THAT HE HAS MADE A GOOD DECISION(REMEMBER HE WAS ASSIGNED THE WORK BY THE gods)..socrate history looks alike wth christ who was loved by his disciples and loved by majorities but being hated by the rulers and by minorities....who knows if that was the reason why hes been called father of moral philosophy..wish we could have someone like him back this days...
