Nigeria’s military had announced it recaptured Baga from Boko Haram and posted pictures, more than a month after the town was overrun in the worst massacre of the Islamist terror group’s six-year insurgency.

Defence spokesman Chris Olukolade said many terrorists had drowned in Lake Chad as they tried to flee bombardment from Nigerian air force jets.

The town, a fishing hub on the shore of the lake in the far north of Borno state in north-east Nigeria, was recaptured on Saturday afternoon after an assault that began the previous day, he said.

But the insurgent group Jama’atu AhlisSunnah Lidda’awati Waljahad, popularly known as Boko Haram took to Twitter on Sunday to deny the claim. Using this handle ‘@Urwatu_Wutqa’, the group posted the following:



The group, in a new public relations offensive, got suspended when they launched their first Twitter account @Alurwa Alwuthqa.

I think I will take the NA words as true untill we see a witness from Baga to conferm

propaganda,even the residents of baga confirmed that it has been liberated,chad also confirmed it,even BBC reporters who are known for their thorough scrutiny confirmed it.so how come BH is now coming out to deny a well established fact?,they want to cause confusion,division between citizens and the military and also kill the morale of our troops.
