OIL RIG On The MARINA [photos] by Nobody: 10:43am On Dec 24, 2014
Hello all,

I have been looking for the right forum to post this topic. Maybe nairaland needs to add a general forum to exisiti g ones.

Back to the topic: there have been an oil rig positioned close to the CMS bustop of the marina on lagos island. Funny enough, the last time I saw a rig on marina (about 2years ago) I heard it was undergoing repairs as there is a ship repair company situated on the marina.

This time around, the news im hearing is that an oil exploration is about to commence. I still doubt this though but anyone who has information should please enlighten us.

Please note that some of the pictures are hazy due to the harmattan fog of this morning. I took some of the pictures on the bridge leading to apongbon while some others were taken from a building I was in.

thanks

Look for the name written on it then post here. You might need a telescope. That way we will know the company that owns the rig, we can get online to know the project they are there for. Looks to me like Transocean rig.

Those are two jack-up rigs there. Not one. They should be undergoing minor maintenance and definitely not drilling.

Oil has been the major resources Nigeria and it's assailant PDP get what they want, now they are clamouring for the appointment of jimi agbaje as lagos state next governor. undecided it is not possible?

One is Oritsemetimeyin and the other is Onome.

The 2 jack up rigs were produced/fabricated by Nigerdock at their Snake Island yard. It is at Marina awaiting onward transportation to the Niger Delta shallow or deep offshore

I just goggled the name you pasted and the info I got is that it belongs to SeaWolf Oil Services Ltd. I also found this phone no +44 207 423 5000 on their web page, feel free to place a call and make inquiries. It should not be a big deal contacting them.

Just checked the site, the other rig "Onome" is also listed there as belonging to SeaWolf. It also says they were built in UAE. I had the opportunity of visiting Nigerdock's facility and they told us they also produce rigs. But I guess they were just maintaining/repairing these one's

It used to be in Bayelsa and a friend worked with them. He said the rig is presently undergoing repairs in Lagos.

FACT:
The rigs are there because they have been seized by First Bank. First bank is the major financier for Seawolf. The company has reportedly failed to honor its obligations to service the loans obtained from the bank, in spite of massive contracts awarded for the rigs.

If you ask me, its all about mismanagement. Total E&P terminated contracts with the rigs coz the owners failed to account for 11 million dollars meant for training of manpower and purchase of equipment for the rig. Also the company has laid off over 400 workers due to inability to pay salaries, and to think that the rigs pump out up to 150,000 USD per day, while offshore.

OPINION:
There goes the Nigerian business model. Bad at handling good business. HiTV comes to mind here. Give them the Burj Arab to handle and I'm convinced that they will run it down. I doubt this would have happened if Foreigners owned these rigs. Our people like to show wealth long before its mature.

This shows the shallowness of some bankers. Now that the rigs are parked at Marina, what does First Bank intend to do with them?

Will they be auctioned off, leased out or what? Those rigs are a multi-million dollar asset, just lying idle and wasting away. Before you know it, certain vital parts may be vandalised and the rigs may become unfit for use. sad

If it was an SME that borrowed this money from First Bank, the officials of the bank would not give the SME Owner any breathing space, with their monitoring of the customers' books and accounts.

But because it is a larger foreign-owned company, the bank officials turned a blind eye....or how else do we explain how such a loan went bad?? Under their very nose?? angry

Yes, mismanagement has kept the rigs in this state. I worked on Onome while it drilled for Addax for 3yrs or so. Seawolf is owned by Delta ex governor Ibori.
