@OP...there's no table large enough to be sitting down with the pirates. Copying a movie is sooo low cost that anyone can be a pirate. Piracy is controlled by having the movie industry collaborating with the FG to have specific laws ...and having them enforced. E.g....the same piracy was widespread in the US.... movies open in the cinema one day and available on the streets the next....laws were on the books.. movies were seized.... sellers arrested if caught...paid a small fine... and were back in business the following day. New laws were set... piracy became a felony...if caught you face prison time or/and a fine of $250 000. Pirated copyrighted (Hollywood ) movies disappeared from the streets overnight. Are they still available?...yes...but it's like buying cocaine... deep underground...hard to find. If his movie is on the streets then he should release official copies for N500 or even less. People would buy.
This is the post I was waiting for. smiley

Now what will salvage the situation since our lawmakers don't seem to be up to the task.

Besides, you are talking about U.S here. They have a well grounded judicial system. You can't compare that to Nigeria where everything goes. As at this moment, it appears to me he has no choice than to negotiate with them @originalsly

I my opinion, he doesn't need to negotiate with anybody.
He should just beat the price down close to how much the pirated copy sells (just as originalsly has said). After all, he has already made so much money from the movie, made a lot of profit in the Box Office. Remember this is currently Nigeria's all time highest grossing movie.

You know people still pirate hollywood and bollywood films but it don't affect the market very significantly.

Who are the "them" he should sit down and negotiate? Do you really believe you can round up all the pirates?.....and even if you do that today....tomorrow another battalion would spring up....then what? If he is to make it in the movie industry then he should look ahead and stop taking one step forward then two steps backwards..... one step forward by producing movies to be shown in the cinema..... two steps backwards by focusing so much on pirated dvd's when dvd's are on the way out instead of looking to be paid via streaming /downloads. Must say .... if it wasn't for the pirates....Nollywood movies would have never ever been on the world map so he should also be thanking them for free advertisement!

You are right in a way...
Perhaps he and other Nollywood producers. Can explore other streaming services like Netflix for Instance.

I'm still off the opinion that granting the pirates publishing rights with a well bargained deal can be an icing on the cake.
