Celebrities And Campaigns: What's Your Take? by Cmanforall(op): 10:07pm On Mar 17, 2015
You can call it C & C.

This is the era of campaigns. The time our political office holders seek for votes. They won't discriminate from the poor, the needy nor the physically challenged. Every Nigerian's vote count(especially if you've got your PVC). One of their means for canvassing for votes is to use celebrities(nollywood stars, Music stars, comedians etc) during campaigns trying to convince the general populace to vote them into power(after which to visit them go be wahala).

Every Nigerian has his right to support any political party or politician but where I get a little confused is on this Celebs. And I would like you guys to err your views on this:

1) Do they(Celebs) really convince ordinary Nigerian to change his mind into voting their candidate?

2) Do their fans also follow them to support same candidate(even when they know the opponent is a better candidate)?

3) Are their some Celebs(nollywood especially) we here really appreciate as they don't partake openly in these campaign fever(doing busybody, lol)? I'm yet to see Olu Jacobs involved anyway.

4) Is it right for these Celebs(especially Actors(resses)) to stick to their work and improve the quality of what they dish out to Nigerians, then vote for their candidate on election day(rather than parading in every rally)?

Please, fellow Nairalanders, your opinions are needed.

Thank you....

#I hope these Naija Celebs storm into this thread and read people's view.

Stop being too emotional,They are nigerians first before they turned into a celebrity, whether they have an irritating lifestyle or not,,that does not change the fact that they are nigerians and they have every right to freedom of expression and freedom to make choices....they have the right to campaign for any candidate and they have the right to express their opinion and beliefs....it is left to we nigerians to decide who we want or not.....even in america celebrities endorsed barrack obama during the last election...the only problem I have with most naija celebrities is that most of them support a particular candidate because of the money they want to collect from the politicians and not because they feel that person is the right candidate....

I pity the so called 'celebrities' that campaign for the politicians at the expense of their carriers and reputation. Politicians know how to settle their differences amongst themselves. The winners and losers sure know how to come around!

Last bullet:NEVER TRUST ANY POLITICIAN

During a Campaign rally in Rivers state, I was wondering how Tonto Dike's speech will change someone's mind into voting her candidate of choice. Likewise others.

I wonder if these Celebs even have PVCs. Cos most of them might have been out of the country during registration. #justsaying.

In developed democracies celebrities sway votes albeit considerably. While most of their fans do not trust their political judgement, a few ardent fans still vote along celebrity judgements. It is not out of place. However, I'll choose aloofness to open endorsement. Our political climate is too erratic and could puncture one's career afterwards.

The best celebs don't campaign 4 any1, did u see geneviv or omotola campaignin for PDP/APc?

Infact I watched omotola on trending and she clarify on a rumor being circulated dat she rejected a lucrative offer from a particular party (my guess PDP) to campaign for dem.

We still ve some sensible celebs.
