Tension pervaded Enugu on Thursday over the killing of a community leader by Fulani herdsmen.

It was gathered that the deceased, Pa Tagbuo Oguejiofor, 85, a chief, was murdered at his farm in Oma Eke village in Udi Local Government Area of the state.

Our correspondent learnt that before his death, the deceased had driven away some herdsmen from his farm.

It was gathered that the herds destroyed crops and polluted a water well that belonged to the deceased.

Reports of the incident fueled fears of possible reprisal on the Hausa-Fulani community.

However, in a statement, which confirmed the development, the Enugu State Police Command urged residents to avoid taking the law into their hands.

The police spokesman, Ebere Amaraizu, who issued the statement, added that full investigation had commenced into the incident.

Amaraizu said, “The Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, through its operatives. has commenced full scale investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing of a man as well as its motives at his farm land at Oma Eke in Udi Local Government Area of the state on 19/3/15.

Tit for Tat. That's the game..
Re: Fulani Herdsmen Kill Enugu Community Leader On Farm by Crocz(m):
The problem in Nigeria is beyond corruption. You'd think the level of sensitivity of this kind of allegation would warrant a further investigation but no, our journalists love to make eye catching headlines, the easy ones. I can't believe there is no slightest possible evidence that this man was actually murdered by Fulani, so by their logic "anybody who died or murdered in the bush was killed by the fulanis cos they live in the bush and roam farms with their cattle"?
...the man could have been murdered by someone from his own community for all we know.

Fulanis aint as barbaric as these lazy journalists make them out to be...cos they don't usually have access to media, you won't hear their side of the story.

On reading this headline alone, angry youths will storm their villages...burn their houses, harm their families and kill their cattle...and yet, you'll never find this in media cos they have no access or nobody gives a shyt about them. I firmly believe that a fulani man will never sell his cow to buy gun to harm people except someone arm him and give him a reason to retaliate. Some fulani settlements are no more cos of cattle rustlers
that come enmass burning huts, killing their children and making away with their pride of owning a herd and yet you'll hardly find such in the media. And when you do, the details will e hugely suppress and the news squeeze to a narrow corner at the extreme end of a newspaper where no one will read or miss it all together. Do our journalist don't deem it news worthy? Now let things swing other way and you'd be amaze how the journalist will exaggerate things, take facts out of proportion and direct the fury cannon of the masses towards these people.

I'm not defending anybody here, I'm just not following the band wagon of making a tribe look like the satans. Let the police (who?) Investigate the matter cheesy

Udi again? Was it not last year that these herdsmen killed someone in this same Udi LGA. Well, Enugu State House of Assembly I learnt has a bill to grant them grazing lands within the state. Why wouldn't they kill at will. When they tried it in my town, they got the unexpected.
