What Is The Bible's Exact Stance On Alcohol Consumption? by victorVIC1(m): 11:08pm On Mar 22, 2015 |
Recently a debate ensued between a sunday school teacher and some guys in my church in respect to the subject matter. The former opined that the bible is adamantly against the consumption of alcohol(Irrespective of the quantity consumed) while the latter were of the opinion that there's nothing wrong with a Christian drinking alcohol as long as it is consumed moderately.I could barely arrive at any reasonable conclusion after the debate as both parties didn't back up their assertions with bible verses that dealt extensively with the subject matter. I thought I should move the discussion to nairaland perhaps some bible scholars in the forum can help do justice to the subject matter. Let's get the ball rolling. |

victorVIC1: In my own humble opinion, d amount consumed is immaterial-d journey to a fatal end starts with a single step! For me ds two portions dt seem not to relate to Alcohol put paid to d argument Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. 1Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God. The first scripture talks about giving thanks to God in WHATEVER I do and the second talks about giving Glory in WHATSOEVER we do...meaning I should be able to raise dt cold bottle of Gulder and say "Father, thank you for this cold bottle of Gulder, provide same for those who are need of it in Jesus Name..Amen" without feeling nothing in my conscience! For me if u can say ds prayer while u mean it, u shd go ahead-no need for argument! Yes some can but they wont tell u d state of their conscience! Just like we feel wrong when we do wrong but over time our conscience looses its conscience! 1 Like 1 Share |

shaqhead: Why can't someone lift a bottle of alcohol and thank God for it? Even the bible encourages us to use alcohol to celebrate our tithe in his presence. Eat but don't be a glutton like wise drink and don't be a drunk. 1 Like |

shaqhead: Deut. 14:22-26 Verse 26: Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish. Then you and your household shall eat there in the presence of the LORD your God and rejoice. |

Just last sunday, i was also engaged in an argument with my sunday school teacher as regards the consumption of alcohol. I then told him to point where it was written in the bible that we should not consume alcohol. To my amazement he was not able to show me the bible passage. I strongly believe consumption of alcohol is not bad most especially red wine. But it should be done in moderation. Let me shock you more. Do you know that there are some herbal roots that require alcohol for its preparation and potency? So do you now tell me that because you are christain you would prefer to die in sickness than taking the herbs for curative purpose? |

According to Exodus 22:29; you all will agree with me that Yahweh loves alcohol more that Jonathan "Sapele Water" Ebele, otherwise, Y would he be requesting for your Liquors? [Thou shalt not delay to offer the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors]; Definition of Liquor: Alcoholic drink, especially distilled spirits.
