The Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele said:

“We are going to be looking at areas where people are doing what I call the unholy attitude of attacking the currency and making demands that are not needed.

“You have heard of dollarization of the economy. We all take actions to prevent that. The currency for doing businesses in Nigeria remains the Naira. And we will be looking at areas where people are making demands of foreign currency. People who are landlords that are asking for rents in dollars; schools that are asking for fees in dollars, or transacting business in dollars in Nigeria, is illegal and will like to advise to involved in these practices to desist from them because CBN will very soon come after them”.

I believe that the honourable governor knows that this action will have no impact on the exchange rate of the naira and is just posturing.

he should first stop oil and gas companies from paying their vendors in dollars. if he is able to do that then we will know he is talking but that may likely not work cos he knows that most of the owners of those companies are people in government who will stop at nothing to have him kicked out.

the amount of dollars transfered out of this country everyday in the name of importation of equipment that has been in transit for years is alarming.

recall that most oil companies pay 6-% in dollar while 40% in naira.

trace back when the rubbish started and compare it with the value of naira as at that date.

Mr. Governor be sincere to yourself, GEJ doled out dollars during his campaign, what are u talking about why won't people ask for dollars?
Most of the SW obas are swimming in GEJ dollars.

We Nigerians are the cause of our own problems. People just want to rip others off at the slightest chance. Asking for rent and school fees in Dollars! Where do these thieves want the people to get it from. CBN should take immediate action to curb this trend and stop procastinating.

This Emefiele man is just out of his senses! Everybody has the right to demand for whatever fiat currency he/she wants to transacts in. There is no law that every business transaction in Nigeria must be done with the Naira.

This man is supposed to be the most powerful person in Nigeria after the president but he's messing up more than Sanusi.

Hare brained policy that will not work. Forcing people to do things never work because people will always find their way around it. Rather the CBN should make it unattractive to transact in US$.
