Dear Nairalanders, we all need to understand the concept of Greatness and Heroism. I have been reading Revisionist pieces and White-Washing of Sepulchres on several Social Media Platforms with different people calling GEJ a Hero for conceding to Buhari.

So he is now a hero because he conceded? Did he have a choice?

GEJ has played Politics with the Lives of thousands of our Countrymen for too long. History will never be kind to him. Note that He wasn't magnanimous by accepting defeat, the circumstances and factors were all against him. He didn't concede, he was compelled to. He didn't give us democracy, we demanded it and we got it. He is not a hero by any standard.

We should separate sentiments from matters of National Interest, all those who made hate speeches should be prosecuted. All those who stole our collective wealth must be jailed and made to refund the money.

Sending congratulatory messages to Buhari should not confer automatic Immunity to these Wicked Criminals.

The true Heroes are those who stood up in the rain to vote and stayed to make sure their votes count. Not GEJ who allowed impuntiy unchecked, to whom "Stealing is not corruption".

GEJ's concession of defeat is commendable, but not admirable. He must answer for embezzled funds.

Ur was indeed a dumb post. Imagine lives dt would have lost if he ddnt allow a free $ fair election or even if he'd kept quiet after d announcement of d final results of d presidential election. If GMB had lost would he have taken ds honourable path? Surely GEJ is d best democrat Nigeria has ever produced as president

Naija sha, did buhari work alongside Jonathan when he needed him. Durng the Insurgent attacks, when Buhari could have called the BH ad spoken with them just as GEJ did with the Niger delta militants during Yar Adua tenure before he passed on. Buhari culd have helped ad his APC men yet they rather politicize everything and call him a failure instead of helping the man.

Nigerians, the very hands we didn't outstretch to the ma that honor our views, you wat him to stretch to Buhari?

Nigerians, very very unfair.

Its well.

Bros if you fail to commend GEJ for what he did that means some thing is wrong with you. If you don't have anything tangible to say it is better you don't comment. The status GEJ has risen for the decision he took is higher than being the president the next 4 years. Think man. He has been commended by top leaders and you are here criticizing him. What do you thing will happen if rejects that result? Nothing my brother. People have done it in the past.
while i do not want to join issues with you, we should learn to give deserved credits. Jonathan is the leader of PDP, he accepted defeat whereas his party has served notice of their readiness to approach the tribunals. Reconcile that! For all i care, if there were not to be personal consequenses for Jonathan in the likely event of a bloodbath should he reject the result or try some other funny stunts, he would have done so. He just wants to arrogate Jega's achievement to himself after they failed in their bid to circumvent the process.

you are a bad winner and an unpatriotic Nigerian. Respect must be given to gej whether you like it or not. In 2011, gej defeated gmb by more than 12 million votes, we never heard any concession speech from gmb; his supporters went to the streets killing, destroying properties and what have you. When he was approached, he simply responded: my supporters were simply expressing their delight and disappointment at the results. Back to this present one, imagine youths in the north celebrating with knives, cutlasses and machetes plus sticks. Here you are talking of somebody that allowed democracy to peacefully thrive even when he had every opportunity to truncate it parochially. This is what gmb can't do.
congratulations to gmb! Let us wait and watch his promises of stabilising world oil price as well as appreciating naira to equal the dollar, end insurgency, that is our prayer.

Re: Obama Praises Nigeria’s President For Conceding Defeat by Nobody: 4:09pm On Apr 01, 2015
Sadly your opinion lacks visible knowledge of Nigeria and its issues. Corruption and its major stronghold over the nation was Incorporated on a grand scale by people like IBB etc. They are the big fish that should be dealt with and not Jonathan. If you have any recollection of Nigeria in the 70s and 80s (not based on what you have read but lived to see yourself), you would know that even though the systems weren't perfect, there was a system of infrastructure that existed in almost all fields. The major player who had a hand in bringing this country down the drai hole was IBB himself and no one else. Jonathans government is a massive reflection of the effects of the past, and his recent action is the perfect step in bringing a change he also longed for if honest. You go on about his corruption in Bayelsa which I don't deny, but you also forget the Tinubu man ripped Lagos funds and is now a saint, should be lock him up as well? As I said Jonathan was a weak man and that's whyyour bully pack mentality looks for the weakest to attack. You have not focused on Obasanjo but use the excuse of ten years ago to sweep aside the damage that man caused. Same with IBB and many more.

Brimmie:
My Brother, I respect your Opinion. You are more or less making excuses as usual for his Incompetency and Failure. OBJ ruled almost a decade ago.

Just like OBJ, GEJ had the Opportunity to be the "Hero", but he is too weak and allowed the "Opportunists" get to him by making his "Visions" non-feasible.

If we are to go by his Past, he has always been a Failure! I refused to be deceived by his Looks. We all know how Corrupt he was in Bayelsa. Nigerians were blinded by his name "Luck" and didn't bother to check his Achievements before Voting en masse for him in 2011.

I repeat, the circumstances and factors were all against him. He's no Hero! But I commend him.

Bro your too sentimental. I believe your part of those Nigerians that usually calls for the head of GEJ when any member of his cabinet do err buh your eager to praise the individual that performs. to start with, who appointed Jega? smh... Boko haram should better not stop bombing cos if they stop, then we have to ask the president elect and apc some questions.

Exactly my position you just echoed. Jonathan should be made to face prosecution for criminal complicity in the death of over 15,000 citizens and the many financial crimes perpetrated under his supervision. Credit for electoral reforms should go to Jega who stood his ground and not an opportunistic Jonathan. After all, the PDP which he leads was still against the use of the Smart Card Readers as at Sunday 29th March 2015.
Stupid thinking from a hater....is as simple as that. Would GMB have conceded to defeat if he had lost...Never, he showed that in 2011. GEJ just showed him that there is a difference btw a good leader and leader. Give credit to him and stop hating because u can never e as humble as he is, even in ur dream.

Buhari can't do that. We have a muslim and a pastor as leaders. Also you seem to lack understanding of politics. They aren't kings. If they legalize gay marriage, it will come from the house of assembly and the reps and senator represent nigerians.
