Fayose’s Impeachment: Dep Gov,gov’s Aides Lead Citizens To Occupy Assembly by Nobody: 6:09am On Apr 07, 2015
Some concerned citizens of Ekiti
State and particularly members of the Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP, yesterday laid siege on
Ekiti State House of Assembly following the
rumour that the 19 All Progressives Congress,
APC, lawmakers in the assembly were
planning to hold a sitting on Monday to
impeach Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The concerned citizens had converged on the
Assembly as early as 8.30 am and took over
the complex.
They blocked all major roads leading to the
House with the motive of preventing the APC
lawmakers from gaining access.
They practically turned the premises of the
assembly into a fun centre, as they brought
tables, generators, food and loud music.

Some of those that occupied the assembly
complex yesterday included Deputy Governor,
Dr Kolapo Olusola, former Speaker, State
House of Assembly, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi,
Special Assistant to the Governor on
Information, Mr Lanre Ogunsuyi, his colleague
in the Public Communications, Lere Olayinka,
and a host of others.

Though, they conducted themselves in a
peaceful manner, the mobile policemen that
were drafted to the area came in nine Hilux
vans and officials of the Department of State
Service , DSS, who were heavily armed were
stationed at the two entrances of the
Assembly Complex.
The invaders danced to the music supplied in
front of the old Assembly Complex, where they
were restricted by security agencies.
They, however, vowed to keep a vigil in the
assembly, asking the APC lawmakers to
impeach Fayose in their presence.

Briefing newsmen on why they converged at
the Assembly, Ogunsuyi said the Omirin-led
lawmakers erred in law by claiming that they
sent a notice of impeachment to the Governor,
saying it was a complete misfire for Omirin to
be claiming speakership while also
challenging his impeachment in the court of
law.
He said: “The new Nigeria which President
Goodluck Jonathan and Major Gen.
Muhammadu Buhari all campaigned for is the
one that would respect the rule of law.
‘’With this convergence, you can see that the
people are standing by their governor. They
are ready to defend their mandate.

“Nobody asked Omirin and other APC
lawmakers not to come to the Assembly, they
only decided to abdicate their duties since last
year November 17. Impeachment procedure
does not start and end with Assembly alone.
The judiciary is involved, so this plan is highly
condemnable.
“We want to emphasize that they are welcome
as long as they are concerned about making
laws for the progress of the state, but if it was
meant to come and impeach Governor Fayose,
we won’t allow that.”

Ogunsuyi, however, said the governor as the
leader of the state will continue to spread
olive branch to the lawmakers for the state to
remain in peace and harmony.
“We don’t want any unwholesome issue
because the task of developing Ekiti is an
onerous task that needs to be pursued with
vigour. The governor doesn’t want any
distraction and that is why he has been
pursuing peace at all times.
“We want some measures of decorum in Ekiti.
We are not proud of the era whereby we had
three governors within a week. We want a
stable government and that we will continue
to pursue for Ekiti to be at peace.”
Also commenting on the current tension in the
state, former Speaker, Hon. Tunji Odeyemi,
advised the APC lawmakers to sheathe their
swords and allow peace to reign.

Nobody asked me to resign — Fayose
Meantime, Governor Ayo Fayose yesterday
dispelled the rumour making the rounds that
the President Goodluck Jonathan has advised
him to resign from office, saying nobody has
advised him in that respect.
The governor who featured in the popular
monthly programme tagged ‘Mr Governor
Explains’ on state-based media in Ado Ekiti
yesterday equally said it was not true he was
hiding from the state, saying he has always
associated and mingled with his people even
during his difficult days.

Armed Thugs will take over from them from today.
Everything possible to stall the sitting is the next line of action. State Assembly turn jamboree venue and security official could do just nothing.

It doesn't matter whether they are voted out on Saturday or not coz their mandate doesn't expire till May 29, so till that expiry date Fayose is a sitting duck and will be impeached.

This process will play out until may 29 when most of this lawmakers will not be returning. I still think that Fayose will finish his tenure.

Fayose bit more than he could chew and payback time has come. He who comes to equity must come with clean hands. He who seeks justice must do justice.

If it was cool for four lawmakers to impeach 19 lawmakers all because you enjoyed presidential support, it must be 'cooler' for 19 to impeach you especially with all constitutional breaches against you.

Exactly! He endorsed that illegality of the 7 seven lawmakers but now wants to be treated as a sacred cow.

Why is Fayose hiring people to lay siege on the assembly? I thought he said the law makers are jokers? Why is he now all of a sudden afraid?

I can't wait for his impeachment and the APC law makers better be fast about it. They only have from now till June or thereabout ( or do they also go on May 29 )? to impeach the idiota.

However, APC should not forget the importance of actually getting the majority in the assembly elections this weekend. Failure to do so, Fayose would have technically defeated them. It is obvious that his delay tactics boils down to that.

They say they are conducting themselves in peaceful manner but preventing lawmakers from gaining access into their office complex and turned the place into a club complete with sufficient food and music.

First, the violated the lawmakers' right to free movement and association.

Secondly, they constituted themselves into public nuisance.

Third, the prevented elected lawmakers from carrying out their constitutional assignment.

I believe their are provisions in law upon which charges could be filled in respect of these.

Fayose can fight dirty all he wants, he's not gonna last three more months in that office.

Ps: Regarding the Oba's scandal, I think we
should soft pedal a little. Lets not risk blowing the situation out of proportion.

A lot of folks are still bitter from the experience of March 28 and might wanna cease any opportunity to ensure the transition never takes place. They (politicians) just might kill a couple of South Westerners in the SE prompting a reprisal in the SW and before you know it, we get a serious sectarian crises in our hands, and then everything else the likes of Orubebe and Asari had desired would follow.

As long as Buhari has yet to be sworn in, we
aren't out of the woods yet.
