campaign of its candidate in the November 16 Anambra polls, Senator Chris Ngige on the same he was rounding up his annual Ofala Festival.

The APC kicked off its campaign yesterday, which was witnessed by a mammoth crowd that defied the rains to converge on the Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, Onitsha – the commercial city was also host to the Ofala festival which was holding a stone throw away at the Palace of the Onistsha monarch.

The monarch, who expressed surprise, said it was very disrespectful for a political party and its governorship candidate, in spite of almost one year notice for the Ofala, to fix its rally the same day and out of annoyance, struck his symbol of tradition three times to express his feelings.

Igwe Achebe, while praying at the Ime Obi as part of activities, marking this year’s Ofala festival said, “Today, a political party has chosen to launch its campaign for governorship in Onitsha at the same time the Ofala is going on despite the one-year notice we gave to them. If anybody defiles the land, the land shall defile the person,” he stated.

Speaking in the same vein, Anambra State governor, Peter Obi frowned at the time the APC campaign train chose to storm Onitsha, adding that a true Igbo man should not have allowed the tradition of his people to be trampled upon because of sheer interest for one office or another.

Gov. Obi further said for APC to fix its rally on the same day the Obi of Onitsha was marking his Ofala festival, was an insult on the leadership of Ndigbo.

He recalled that his party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, had shifted their rally from Tuesday, October 8 to Monday, October 7, so as to avoid a clash with the Ofala festival.

“A dog bears the name given it by its owner and that it behooves on Igbo to stand firmly and insist that their traditional institution must be accorded full respect at all times” the governor said, while pleading with Onitsha youths, who were already spoiling for a showdown with placards, to sheathe their swords.

That monarch has respect for his stool and staff of office hence he was matured in registering his displeasure but didn't threaten an particular tribe or any particular individual. He even went a step further to ask his supporters for calm and avoid violence.

Can any political party fix their rally or whatever on the day of Eyo festival in Lagos state? It's a food for thought.

Op, what has a political campaign on an Ofala day got to do with genocide? Although I'm not from Onitsha and has nothing to do with its Ofala, the two scenarios are different,

Oba wished for death of Igbos without provocation and Obi of Onitsha never said anything but was just angry & I know we are slaves to our emotions.

He is entitled to feel however he wants but he still showed leadership quality by not allowing his anger get the better part of him (even though he gave a year notice ahead) but Oba lacks self control. Sorry to say but I can't just keep it to myself.

Foool! Igbos voting pdp is their choice n constitutional human right as a citizen of nigeria, not defiling any fuccking land (lagos). Ofala is a traditional festival that anybody in onitsha respects. Is just like pdp doing campaign during eyo festival, d oba then has a right to be angry with the campaigners. Besides the obi did not threaten any body's life.

While Akiolu caused Igbos that are trying ridicule his stool and land for declaring it a no man's land, Obi of Onitsha actually caused people of different tribes including the Igbos that took part in that rally which was initially approved but the notice for the cancellation was convey to the leaders midway into the rally.

You people should stop this nonsense. Why are you trying to defend the indefensible?
These are two different scenarios......a section of the igbo leaders in Lagos went to pay homage to a royal father....only for the royal father to threaten their existence.

The Chris Ngige debacle is entirely different. He decided to embark on a political campaign the same day that the Onitsha indigens were celebrating their Igwe's ofala.

Just like someone embarking on a political campaign when the oba of Lagos is celebrating eyo festival.

The Obi of Onitsha did not threaten the electorates...he only frowned at the fact that Chris Ngige decided to do his campaign on the day of Grande finale of ofala celebration.

The issue is not you voting for the candidate of your choice but declaring his land a no man's land. If Obi of Onitsha can advocate for death on people from all walks of life because of Ofalla festival then I can't imagine what he will to anyone that declare his land a no man's land.

You are the liar here. Oba of Lagos anger is based on your people's continued senseless rant about Lagos and her indigens. Imagine what your Obi would have done if his land was tagged a no man's land? And must Obi of Onitsha also advocate for death on the APC members instead of him registering his discomfort about the rally in a responsible manner? Its a tit for tat my friend.

Kindly resend after changing your font size & if I doesn't make sense still, I might leave the toilet and read it all over again.

There is no comparison here

The Igwe curse a political party "APC" and an individual "NIGIGE"
for campaigning during the Ofala festival in Onitsha

But the Oba of Lagos threatened to kill or drown in the lagoon a particular tribe "IGBO"
If they did not vote for his choice "AMBODE" as the governor of lagos

The comparison is that the Two traditional rulers cursed and advocates for them on people.

And when you talk about Ngige and APC, will their be party without its promoters and supporters? He cursed Ngige and all APC supporters present at the rally and not only Ngige alone.

Igwe Achebe was angry when Ngige of the APC fixed its rally on the day of his ofala. He said so during the ofala festival.
The ruling party then in Anambra shifted their own rally then because of the festival... And they later put up a stance that the Obi should endorse them officially for that.. The Obi didn't toe that line, cos he later entertained Ngige in his palace that same day after the rally.
His message was non partisan, that people should respect traditional institution. He didn't threaten anybody into voting for APGA,nor did the Obi endorse any of the candidates.
Now,the Obi placed a curse on anybody that denigrates the land and the tradition, which is not personal to him. But Oba Akiolu threatened to drown anybody that doesn't vote for Ambode as Governor and this is personal to him.
We can now see the difference.
Anyway. 11th is around the corner, vote for your choice without fear.

What does the Nigerian constitution say about lands? Doesn't the land act decree say that all lands belong to the federal government? In the constitution, because we are "united" every individual is allowed to live in any part of Nigeria, own property and perform every civic duty including paying of TAX, voting and being voted for as long as it's within the limits of the law. Nobody stopped anyone to live in the East or any part of this country, igbo's are just good settlers. I give that to them. The most important thing is that they are Nigerians and they MUST be allowed to exercise their freedom of association and speech as Nigerians.

My argument is about inciting violence and preparing a ground for Bile to grow between tribes. If all traditional leaders threaten people living on their land, where then is the freewill of being Nigerians and choosing a leader. This is 21st century not 18nth century.
This is democracy. We are not in the era of slaves and slave masters.
