It's a way of giving respect to them for what they have done for the club. Players like Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi are living legends, and you can't afford to treat them anyhow. Wonder why Xavi is permitted to make his own decision?

If Raul could make it at Real madrid as a youngster who says a player with Ronaldo's dedication and hard work won't make it to at least Real madrid's bench.If Ronaldo could make it in Manchester United(Mind you the EPL was superb then) who says he can't make it in Madrid then, when some players where already past their Peak.This same Ronaldo that was already playing a Euro final for Portugal at 19! Nonsense, like i said before with his hard work and dedication he would have made it to the world's elite players.Maybe differently since the Spanish league is more about technical abilities and skills and less physical, but he will certainly make it to the top.

all am trying to tell you is that your comment was false and unnecessary. If Ronaldo had started at a gigantic club like real madrid in 2002 at the age of 17, he would never be a starter or a regular until 5 or 6 year later. Just like Messi who started in 2005 but was never a regular until 2009. So stop posting 300 goals in 6 seasons here and telling Us: if Ronaldo had started in spain ehn! After all check out their numbers when they both became regulars in spain in 2009. Messi still is way better. 4 league titles, 5 LA liga best player titles, more goals, more assists, more golden shoes, 50 league goals, 73 season goals, etc etc. So young man say something else. Don't be thinking if Ronaldo had played his entire 13 years in spain he'd be having 13*50=650 goals already.
