Heavily Armed Robbers Stormed Major Streets Of Calabar, Cross River State by BrainnewsNg(op): 8:07pm On Apr 13, 2015
By Daniel Andrew,

CALABAR- Poor security issues has been affecting residence of Calabar the Cross River State capital lately, ranging from phone/hand bag snatching on the streets, house to house robbing in the night to cult wars all in the state.

On Friday 10th April 2015 at exactly 4:30pm in the evening there was a heavy and a sporadic gun shots along mount Zion road off Etinyin Abasi streets, Calabar south. In the same mood the robbers tried to snatch a Lexus Jeep from a man at Prosperous Oil and Gas filling station located in Mount Zion road but the man refused letting go of his car key which he was let shot in the hand which he escaped successfully with it.

At first people thought it was from Police men due to the election tension the following day, but after much observations it was learnt to be unidentified gun men numbering about 15 (14 men and a lady) invading major shops, Filling stations, super market etc.

They were fully armed with long range riffles with a Toyota Hilux for the operation. An eye withness told Brainnews NG that the car the robbers used was not their private car, they snatch it from a motorist who was driving along Calabar road after their first operation in Ibedmoore (a phone shop) at white house by Calabar road that same day.

The following places were their operating points; Ibedmoore (A phone shop), along calabar road, prosperous oil and gas filling station, and express super market all in Mount Zion Road by Etinyin Abasi, in Calabar.

After each operation point according to a taxi driver who witnessed the whole scene, the (robbers) will abandon the car used in the previous operation and confiscate another from any motorist passing along the road in a bid to hide their identity from security agents. A gun battle toke place at Jebbs, Calabar with the Nigerian Police after over powering a motorist of his Audi car in a bid to escape, but they were not armed, the police went unhurt too.

There were later spotted along Etta Agbor road, Calabar near UNICAL with intention of robbing UNICAL filling station, Sparks shop and even Etisalat office but were repelled by heavy security men. Soon before a close by encounter by the security men on them, it took no much time for the robbers to confiscate another car from a motorist, and they escaped un-hurt.

On their way to escape the city, a special force of the Nigerian police, and other security forces tracked 10 of them down (9 men and a woman) at Diamond hill, Calabar later that evening, currently now Brainnews NG believes they are in the custody of the Nigerian police.
