Gareth Bale is a serious doubt for Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-finals second leg against Atletico, after the former Tottenham man pulled up with a calf injury yesterday.

The Wales international lasted only five minutes of the European champions’ routine 3-1 victory over Malaga in La Liga on Saturday at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu and was forced off the pitch.

Javier Hernandez got a rare opportunity to play as a result, replacing the world’s most expensive player in the early exchanges.

Interestingly, the above photo was captured of Bale after he went to ground with his ailment, as team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo comes to his assistance.
