FYI, it is going to be Buhari's presidency very soon, and not jonathan's that crawl upon seeing christen Largarde/IMF. I hope this does not happen before may 29.
30 years ago, Buhari rejected such crass request, he shall reject it again.
what did buhari reject 30 years ago?

THE International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday called for further currency depreciation in Nigeria and seven other oil exporting West African countries.

Recall that the Nigeria’s currency, naira, has depreciated officially by 28 percent from N155 to a dollar November last year to N197 at the close of business yesterday
"further currency depreciation" will hit our manufacturing industries very hard. The real sector of the economy is still groaning in the wake of recent currency depreciation, and yet the IMF dare suggest this!

I trust GMB, he would trash this advice!

Re: IMF Calls For Further Currency Depreciation In Nigeria by Nobody: 8:23am On Apr 28, 2015
I am not surprised.

When you run an oil dependent economy...this is what you get.....a very very weak currency.

This is because the foreign exchange you need to buffer your currency is weakened by the fall in forex from falling oil prices....which puts pressure on your reserve to buffer the economy.

Until you come to a point...Deplete the savings....or devalue the currency.

The problem is our dependency on oil.

Oil is a curse.

Ngozi works for IMF not Nigeria. This is why they keep cooking up lies about rediuced poverty and boasting of a growing economy when their main plan is to ruin us and render us powerless and useless so that we become toys in their hands.
What did you expect.?

We sowed the seeds of our destruction by deciding to become reliant on oil for our revenue.

Now....oil prices have fallen...and our savings account is getting depleted so that we can buffer the naira.

Either we keep on doing that...until the savings account is empty....or we devalue.

I think it is high time we did what South Korea did and focus on education, innovation and industrialization. After all...they were far behind us in 1960. So also was China....and now today both of them are ahead of us.

Oil dependency is the cause....not IMF, not Ngozi.

Bretton woods hegemony. A resistance is needed, how come the western world didn't depreciate their currencies when their economy was in the gutter in 2007-2008.
I guess they forgot Ngozie, their house-maid is on her way out. Babangida started this BS, but we're putting an end to this crap now.

Re: IMF Calls For Further Currency Depreciation In Nigeria by Nobody: 8:53am On Apr 28, 2015
That will be disastrous in an economy that is so import dependent. What Nigeria needs is diversification to achieve self-sufficiency, then... goodbye IMF, pack your self-serving policies and clear off.

Buhari Rejected This Anti-People Advice 30 years ago from the Washington Consensus (IMF, WORLD BANK ET AL).

Read Buharism and Economic Blueprint and you will understand why. The Asia Economics Rejected this Criminal Doctrine, Why should Africans Adopt it?

IMF - economic assassins. destroy a country with debts and economic problems, then walk in an take all their resources. IMF gives bad advice all the time.
