Mba Holder Turns Okrika Seller, Says I’ll Never Give Up by hajifaty(op): 12:52pm On Jan 13, 2009
Frustrated by the nation’s increasingly saturated job market, Mr. Saibu Awoyemi now sells fairly-used clothes in Lagos to make ends meet in spite of having a Master’s in Business Administration, SEGUN OLUGBILE reports

If one visits his shed where he sells fairly-used clothes, popularly known as okrika, near the Cowbell Plaza, Oba Morufu International Market, Iyana-Ejigbo, Lagos, nothing would have suggested that Saibu Awoyemi is educated. Neither his looks nor the way he dressed suggest that the man has ever been to a higher institution before. Like other traders around him, he jostles for customers, using all manners of business tricks to convince buyers. But not only is he a 1984 graduate of the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Oyo State, possessing a Bachelor in Forest Resources, he also has a 1990 Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Ilorin, Kwara State.

Our correspondent too could not have known that Awoyemi was this educated if not for a clash involving him and one of his customers last Friday. The customer, later discovered to be a policeman attached to the Ejigbo Police Station, Lagos, was owing the 49-year-old man N100, a balance of payment for the N300 worth of pair of trousers he bought from him.
