Can One Sell Nigerian Music Online Without Copyright Problems? I am planning a website where people especially nigerians abroad can easily download Nigerian songs online. However i do not knowhow to do this without having having litigations springing up. Is it even possible? What do you think may be the financial layout I may need to do this? Please your contributions will appreciated. |

I would start by contacting PMAN or whatever association in Nigeria that is responsible for enforcing copyright laws. Like Kazaa et all, you may have to enter a deal with them where you pay them some amount per download. I am sure they will provide you with financial details. As for the idea, pretty brilliant. I would like to download certain naija music, rather than just listen to them on say, radiopalmwine.com |

Thanks My2cents, i had thought it would involve striking a deal with the real intectual property owner, like the artise or the producers! The idea is to get the songs easily accessible to Nigerians abroad and make some cash in the process. Please more contributions . thanks |

it's a good idea. the first thing i to contact an entertainment lawyer in nigeria to see how it'd work out. i imagine you can get the songs from the owner,s either the music companies or the producers themselves for a price. say 10% o fwhatever your download price is |

You will need a miracle for that to work. The hawkers on the street will have to be forced out of a job. I think bootleg is in Nigeria to stay. |

Old Glory, I could be totally 100% on this, but from Brushe's remarks, I think his main focus would be the nigerians in the diaspora. 99 cents a song may not sound too bad for a good oldie like Sunny Okosun, Victor Uwaifo, Christy Essien or Blackie, from the american perspective. However, consider that the same song would cost N140 per download in naija is another tory entirely ![]() Number finally , even with bootleggers in naija, they don't offer, say, a CD with the exact kind of mix that you would desire. That is why, over here in the US, some pple don't mind doling out $25 for a special mix of songs, even though the average price of a CD is about $15.Regardless, it's all in how sweet your talk is. I mean, there are pple who could sell sun shades to a blind man lol |

Old Glory:Yeah Old Glory, i have thought of those guys on the streets.Infact they are the reason i think this idea might work out. I intend to make it so attractive that it shd make little economic sense buying Cds on the roads.I am looking at volume. It's an experiment. It's being done in other countries and it's working.I have a friend who is now working on a 2nd album.Their video was all over Bob tv, London; mitv and channel O.But you won't believe that they can't even afford new clothes for themselves after all these! I think that i should be able to provide a more transperant sales of songs and artise should start enjoying what belongs to them.Presently, 500,000 albums may be sold and they only know about 50,000. This is how i intend to catch their interest. |

well it's a good idea one that me myself am planning myself, but you don't need charle boy, number one he is no longer the pman head and pman is not the oraganization to meet you would have to meet with the copyright commission or if you can meet with the managment of the artist and work out a plan, that way is cheaper, or the recording company of the artist, cause with copyright you pay more |

am not so sure if you read my other post but that would give you an idea of how it would be that was my idea b/4 but cause of the cost with copyright, look the market is big with over 250 million 9ja even with 40 companies doing the same thing if you got go adverts you would make your money. so good luck to you |
