Well, I guess it is a good idea...but you have to make the hospitals work properly first. Fact is, our health care system is poorly funded, and has a massive lack of staff. We don't have enough specialst doctors for example. We don't have enough lab techies, and we do not have enough nurses. And the rural areas do not have enough medics of any type. Plus our hospitals are poorly equipped, and poorly funded and understaffed. If Buhari wants to make our hospitals work...he will have to make tertiary hospitals public private....and fund primary and secondary hospitals only. Right now....thanks to low oil prices....we do not have enough money to fund all our hospitals adequately. (Unless oil starts selling at $130 per barrel. Can I have an amen? ).And we may have to increase the number of specialist doctors, and the numbers of other cadres of staff. And training has to be improved too. We cannot have world class hospitals without being willing to pay for world class. |
