I've read Achebe's memoir and some other account of the civil war from different authors. One thing i can deduce is that the major players in the war all made several mistakes. Is Awolowo controlling the soldiers shooting planes? Even the most sophisticated of army in 21st century make one-off mistake. If we are talking of 20 planes being shot down, its a different case.
