Whose Responsibility Is It To Choose Wedding Date? Advice Needed. by Nobody: 2:21pm On May 10, 2015
So Nairalnders, I am currently in a fix.

It is my dream to have a top notch wedding. We wed only once and I want to make sure it is memorable one.

The issue is I and my fiancee are having disagreement as to wedding year.
I am a Legal practitioner and a property consultant(though a new legal practitioner; Two years at the bar). I feel I am still not fully loaded for the kind of wedding I intend to have.

I informed my fiancee that we will be wedding in 2017 by then I believe fully well that I would have reached the target and attain fully my potentials.
She objected that it is too far. She said I am rich enough to have a moderate wedding and that both families(mine and hers) would be willing to assist.

My problem is I don't understand why she would call into question something I intend to do for our own good. I intend to sponsor my wedding myself because there is joy in doing that.

Should I go ahead with my plans or should I bow to her suggestion?

Whose responsibility is it to choose a wedding date? The Bride to be..the groom to be..or both?

The weddin day should be for her. So if u want her to be happy, stick to her date.. U should be happy she wants a moderate weddin ceremony.. Not some lavish one which u may regret later on

Most groom to be leaves that decision to their bride to be,but if u feel u have a special date, let her know. Or better still u both should decide if u wont let her pick a date of her choice. There is no cause for alarm na

Op, just tell your babe you ain't ready for marriage instead of this flimsy excuse because if you were, you will simply work with what you've instead of hoping on an imaginary money.. if you don't make money by 2017 nko? You will postpone it to 2030?? grin grin

That babe had better leave you now for her own good...

This is something you both need to thrash out (maturely). Look at it as conflict resolution skills - something which will come in handy when you do eventually tie the knot.

Don't be afraid to have disagreements. It's all part of getting to know your partner well. But make sure even when disagreeing, you both listen to each other. Let her calmly state her reasons and concerns for not wanting a further date (2017). Then you listen attentively without interrupting, before stating your reasons for wanting otherwise. As long as it's handled well, you'll both eventually come to an amicable compromise.

In the meantime, I can take a good guess as to why she doesn't want to wait. She's probably afraid that between now and then, she might lose you. So it's up to you to reassure her that you're going to be by her side - for the long haul.

Good luck. smiley

Perhaps your fiancee is thinking age wise? Well, if you still decide on 2017, your wedding will still be modest, think time value of money. My advice? Come to a common ground; this year or next. Have a posh vacation in 2017 with your wife instead

Must you have a lavish wedding undecided

Ladies, you see why its not good to give up the cookie before marriage... he'l be less eager to make it official.

Stop wasting her time and park aside for a serious guy who's ready to wife her down.
