Nigerians lets wake up and smell the coffee. The only thing causing this fuel scarcity is out insistence that we must buy fuel at a specific govt price. Let's all adjust our belts and do away with this so called regulated fuel price. It's earlier we get used to buying petrol at high price and let natural market forces bring down the price over time. Govt should focus in regulating the quality of fuel. By the time refineries come on board by private investors not govt things will improve. We are already suffering as it is

I support total removal of oil subsidy.none of the marketers is selling at approved pump price and yet they want FG to pay them because they sell petrol BTW #150 and #200 per litre.FG should not pay them.

Why can't NNPC/FG do the importation of fuel themselves, why delegate it to some individual/private company, whose interest is themselves and not the people of Nigeria?

Thanks in advance for answering. It has me flummoxed.

At 97naira Deizaini and Okonjo Iweala told us they wont need to pay subsidy again, because of fall in global oil price. Bt price couldnt go down because of other costs

Instead of Jonathan To leave it at 97naira because of Election. As part of the numerous greek gifts he was dishing out he reduced it to 87

At 97naira we will not ve been paying subsidy to marketers

Even though I ve my reservation as how they arrived at their cost analysis..

I was still okay if as Okonjo Claimed they.wont pay subsidy with 97naira

Bt Jona desperation got us here

…90% of Nigerians buy above N87/litre — NOI Polls

Oil marketers, Tuesday, blamed the Federal Government for the persistent fuel scarcity, even as the fuel crisis continued unabated across the Federal Capital Territory and most parts of the country.

One of the marketers who spoke to Vanguard in Abuja, said Nigerians should hold the Federal Government responsible for the crisis, stating that the government has, against all advice and agreements, refused to pay the marketers the debts owed them in respect of subsidy on Premium Motor Spirit, PMS.

The marketer who chose to remain anonymous, said the Federal Government appears not to be serious about bringing the scarcity to an end, as the government has failed to honour most of the agreements reached between it and the marketers.

The marketer said, “Nigerians should blame the Federal Government for the fuel scarcity currently witnessed across the country. Marketers have shown commitment towards ending the scarcity, but the Federal Government has not been serious about abiding with certain agreements reached during some of our meetings.

“The fact that most oil marketers have stopped fuel importation into the country at the moment was because they do not have money to finance the import and this is because the Federal Government has refused to pay us the money they owe us.

More details soon..

What a hell of regime!

Jonathan should have been impeached a long time ago but impossible bcoz we live in complex minded country where tribalism has taken the front seat...

See where it has led us...now it will take. Substantial years for incoming gov't to be able to fix up his stupendous decisions..

Yet he wants to be recognized as a stateman...Shame

The oil marketers are mostly companies owned by politicians.

The government government or NNPC don't need the marketers to import fuel. Those ocean large vessels you talking about can be obtained for a rent, definitely sure about that.

The government can import fuel itself. Importing of fuel through marketers was specifically created by PDP for political patronage and reward to his members and cronies. The PDP government created the circumstances that makes necessary for Nigeria to import fuel in the first place.

Then again, I heard on TVC news yesterday from an oil worker that only few marketers are allowed to import the fuel.

it's the PDP government that has put Nigerians at the mercy of the marketers.
Re: Fuel Scarcity: Blame FG For Your Suffering, Marketers Tell Nigerians by otokx(m): 8:21am On May 13, 2015
This suffering is what we in the east and south have been suffering for a long time buying petrol at #100.

The worse part is zero electricity so Generator must be powered for homes and businesses. End costs do not increase because the purchasing power is not there.

NNPC and DPR should be reorganized, the subsidy just has to be removed. Kerosene is #130 while PDP say its #50.

There is need for more tank farms to be built at the various ports to receive imported products which may even be cheaper than local refining.

You want Nigerians to be buying fuel at N160 even with crude oil at it's lowest price in a decade. We should buy N160 while others countries now buy for prices less than N50.

Very good question. It's because they want to create jobs for companies that are owned by or fronting for members and cronies of the ruling party: PDP.

The marketers are totally unnecessary in the importation of fuel. The Fg/NNPC could do so easily by itself.

But then, even the circumstances why we need to import fuel was deliberately created by the PDP government by systemic sabotage of our refiniries, so what are we talking about.

I agree with you on everything except the bolded part. Am not sure you understand the fundamentals of the subsidy fraud by your statement in bold.

The subsidy fraud is by the politicians and the rich who manipulate the government to condone the corruption. Is subsidy bad for the economy, in truth, no? The corruption in the system is what is bad for the economy not the subsidy itself. Removing the subsidy wont ever end the corruption in the system but it is morally wrong for any government to embark. Who will now pay for the corruption, Nigerians. Who is responsible for the corruption government. SO if the Government are responsible for the corruption they are responsible for the failure of subsidy and must not make Nigerians suffer for their inabilities.

A responsible government will first of all remove corruption from the system, maintain and build new refineries only then will they remove subsidy. It is governments failure so they should deal with it and not shift the load to poor Nigerians. You cant infect your wife with HIV and divorce her for being infected.

What do they mean by blame FG? are they not the same. Imagine fuel no goes for 130 to 150 per litre. If they had removed to crazy subsidy by then we would be buying fuel at this same current high price back then and by now it would have dropped drastically as more competition would have emerged and fuel would be every where. We are waiting!!!!

What if marketers gang up and refuse to import? The the Nigerian economy crumbles like a pack of cards. There has to be safe resort (our own refineries) to protect the economy from saboteurs. Regulations and control mechanisms set in place. Without that, we will continue to buy fuel at the mercy of marketers and their suppliers.

Fixing the price of a commodity that you don't have absolute control over its supply will always end up in chaos. There will always be greedy people waiting to exploit the system. The price will not remain at 160. The law of demand and supply will come into play. More people will rush into importation and the price will come down. Eventually refineries will spring up. If we continue like this, we will just keep enriching a few pockets
