Meet Nigeria Born Enfield Mayor by Nobody:
Councillor Patricia Ekechi said she was “honoured”
to become Mayor of Enfield.
In a council chamber packed with dignitaries and
family friends, Councillor Ali Bakir handed over his
Mayoral duties to the Upper Edmonton councillor
and former Deputy Mayor.
Jubilee ward councillor Bernie Lappage was
officially appointed Deputy Mayor.
The new Mayor of Enfield told the chamber, who
has lived in Enfield for more than 37 years,
said people had travelled from Nigeria and Florida
to see her being elected.
She said: “I am honoured to be taking up the
position and serve a borough I have lived in for 37
years.
“I will be the Mayor for the people.”
The new cabinet was also officially announced after
cabinet member for environment Councillor Chris
Bond was deselected.
Cllr Daniel Anderson will be taking his place with
Cllr Alev Cazimoglu replacing Cllr Don McGowan
for health and social care.
Cllr Nneka Keazor takes over the role of public
health and sport cabinet member after the
resignation of Rohini Simbodyal earlier this year.
There was not to be any treats for the councillors
this year following Cllr Bakir’s gesture 12 months
ago with each councillor getting a goody bag.
