calebo101:Abeg save your breath because no rational mind would accept such sentimental nonsense. Did you even read what you wrote? Do you even understand the implication of placing something like one's whole national security concern under the custody and reach of an ill trained, indisciplined, corrupt militant rogues led by the likes of Tompolo, Asari etc; its akin to placing your balls in the hands of a sadist so that he could squeeze them and torture you at will. Believe it, no right thinking president anywhere in the world would agree to compromise the security of his country in order to please a handful of militants out of fear of constant blackmail and sabotage. Yes, they might carry out their threats and blow up some pipelines and even bring the country to its knees; but after that, be assured that it will be all out war because Nigerians will be fully united and solidly against anyone that threatens them. I am glad you mentioned Obasanjo; you will also remember Odi and that Obasanjo is till today still alive and free as a bird, well even that one will be a small thing - let them go ahead and try any nonsense. |

luvmijeje:Nigeria has no choice. It is the price we have to pay for allowing the situation deteriorate to such levels. Buhari has just two choices, return to the 'legal' status quo of 2004 when militancy raged on or run a two track solution of 'carrot and stick'. The military is not the solution. You don't go into a gasoline station with a flame thrower to eject illegal occupants if you depend solely on the fuel that is stored there. Hope you know a large proportion of these payments to Tompolo and co. goes for settlement to 'the boys' living in those areas who see millions of dollars worth of oil flowing literally by their doorsteps daily and can barely resist getting their hands on it. Nigeria should just find alternative sources of revenue to oil but in the meanwhile completely privatise the industry. Through the PIB the IOC's should be permitted to negotiate directly with host communities to secure their assets and pay whatever they deem fit for proper accountability. This is the model in all other parts of the world, not Nigeria where individuals use the power of the state to bypass their obligations towards their hosts. I say again to every Nigerian out there. Can you allow that in your town, your village, your home. |

BlackTechnology:Call me what you want. Fact is that your kind always end up frustrated losers because you run purely on the fuel of prejudice, self-deceit and egotism. This leaves you unable to confront and accept the truth. The fact is that it is your leaders at State and regional level who have let you down the most yet you prefer a 'romanticised' version of events where all your folks are innocent victims of the "evil machinations" of other Nigerian ethnic groups. You do not even have the honesty or integrity to confront the fact that GEJ has led Nigeria for 5 years while the people of the ND and the region itself did not benefit at all from having their 'son' as President whereas militant warlords, mercenaries and gun-totting thugs all became billionaires courtesy of the patronage of Jonathan. Those are the sort of reality that shows that you and others love deluding yourselves. |

OgagaMic:I had to mention you because you are an ethnic brother. Just a dey things to educate you: 1. Bomb the pipelines and aggravate the already bad environmental condition of your community. 2. Take up arms against the state and see if you'd have a long career as a militant/terrorist/freedom fighter or criminal. How folks like you still sustain an agitation for the retention of the amnesty programme beats me. I thought it was intended as a stop-gap that pays a stipend while beneficiaries are equipped with useful skills to integrate into society as non-combatants? After rehabilitating a 'mass' of militants and being closed to new entrants/beneficiaries, why should the programme continue? As for the pipeline surveilance, if a first tranche of payment has been made, the contracts should be terminated as soon as the time is covered. After all, these contracts existed while the country daily loses 400kbopd and gas pipelines are sabotaged. Insha Allahu, the new sheriff shall be ready to offer reciprocal reaction to violence from you criminals. |

Gbawe:And your leaders that led since independence has made Nigeria Hong Kong or England. Talk of delusion. Yet you see nothing wrong in what they have done to bring the country including the Niger-Delta to its knees. What did Buhari see or what did he do in 1983 about the Niger-Delta problem when the likes of Asari and Tompolo were in pampers. That is what they call vision or in this case a lack of it. All they were concerned about was their thirst for power and the glories around it sonthey maintained the status quo of maximum rule. As Petroleum minister did Buhari ever go down to see the ugliness and devastation of the creeks. What did he do about it. As PTF Chairman what did he do about the source of all that money he was distributing. He is a farmer. Did he ever check on the hens or was just collecting the eggs. What did he say when his Oga hung Saro-Wiwa and lit the fuse to this conflagration. Nothing. It is now they know they are losing money. It is now they realise the hen sick simply because the eggs have reduced. It is the fact that Niger-Deltans are making money at their expense that worries them. Pity. Nonsense people. |

Toktee:maybe you have forgotten so soon the relief the amnesty gave nigeria. You dont get results by ranting, watch the U.S. they have remained world power cos they are experts at diplomacy. Nigeria can not afford to fight boko haram in the north and at the same time militancy in the Niger delta, especially now that the price of crude has plummeted. lastly only myopic people think about exterminating villians, obasanjo was myopic. Yar'adua knew better and arrested the vice not villians. i am not interested in the short lived sense of supremacy ond would get by taking tompolo out, i am interested in lasting peace and development. take it or leave it, tompolo would easily be replaced by another daredevil if you kill him. Nigeria killed ken saro wiwa and militancy was born years after, they arrested henry okah and tompolo surfaced, they settled tompolo with amnesty and General john togo appeared, they killed john togo and kelvin of kokori was born... Then the govt arrested him and corruptly used large contracts and money to shut the boys. yes Nigeria lost more money than the cost of those contracts when those boys were active even with the military fighting them. but i want lasting development that will change the lives of many. if u want war, go to borno and enjoy it. |

Reference:The militancy was successful because we all thought they were freedom fighters...... They have the sympathy of Nigerians and the world in Nigeria because we all they they have a point in the face of degradation of their environment. Years after, NDDC came in, 13% derivation was passed into law, amnesty came in. Still on the strength of that Jonathan became the Vice-president and later became the President. And yet you are still asking for more. What have you done with the one given and earned by you? The problem of the Niger-Delta and Nigerians in general is the failure of the people to hold their leaders responsible. So if they want to go back to the Creek, they are welcome but they will not have the support of well meaning Nigerians. |

luvmijeje:Thank you. There is only so long some self-serving mercenaries can don the toga of "pro-people freedom fighters" for till the entire world see them for what they are. This is not 1999 when OBJ took over or even 2007 when Yar Adua led the charge to compensate the militants with amnesty and genuinely empower the NDDC to try and make amends for the sufferings of the ND and her people. This is 2015 when it is now fully agreed by all balanced and truthful people worldwide that the leaders of the ND, whether militant or political, are exploitative and duplicitous charlatan who do not care for the people and are only interested in lining their own pocket. No one will therefore support the continuous blackmail of Nigeria by a people who show they are disinterested in holding their direct leaders, i.e those who have failed them the most, accountable. Clearly Nigeria and her leadership has shifted ground and made tangible concessions to the ND. Yet we have not seen these concessions translate into any appreciable gains for the people of the ND because of the corruption and anti-people callousness of the leaders of the region. The pipeline protection contracts is one example. How can anyone support the continuation of protection contracts costing Nigeria huge sums of money yet only delivering the biggest levels of oil theft ever recorded? Clearly the militants are 'eating' on both sides (money from government contract + selling bunkered oil) so why would any sane person argue in favor of a continuation of this deplorable status quo that is only benefiting crooks rather than Nigeria and Nigerians? It is like arguing in favor of the continuation of the fuel subsidy scam !!!! It is the same as how NDDC leaders get a lot to transform the ND yet loot all moneys provided only to turn around duplicitously, so as to deceive their own people they deliberately and heartlessly impoverish , and begin shouting of "injustice against us the owners of the oil that feeds Nigeria". All good Nigerians, including ordinary Niger Deltans who are not gaining anything from the billions flying around, should welcome reforms that will truly work for all Nigerians and destroy, once and for all, the "business as usual" contraptions and arrangements destroying all sectors and corners of our nation. It is time we all put ethnic jingoism aside to begin demanding what is in the best interest of Nigeria and Nigerians. For all the noise some SE and SS bigots make here daily, it remains a total disgrace to them that Yar Adua, from the Fulani ethnic group they hate passionately, did far more for the ND and had more goodwill for the region in the short time he led than "son of the soil" Jonathan has managed in 5 years as President !!! |

Mr. Buhari should remember the saying that "Just because you have the hammer does not mean every problem is a nail" It is in his interest to walk along this fine line, manage Nigeria's delicate diversity or regret it. |

luvmijeje:So hold your leaders accountable first. Lead by example. But you can't can you. And you know it. Everyone just wants to get a piece of the oil. They look at Danjuma and the rest of the oil oligarchs living in affluence and safety earning billions for nothing and they want a piece of that. Catch those first, make an example of them by hanging them in the public square to send a clear message to Tompolo and co. then go after them with a sledge hammer. The real, knowledgable Nigerians will then get your sympathy. My dear, Tompolo and co. are not your problem. They are not the ones who have ruined Nigeria and you know this. |
