The OP asked for unique names, but I see nothing truly unique about any of the names posted thus far. Some of these names even make me feel sad. Can't we be thoughtful enough to come up with some unique names or at least dig deep into the annals of ancient history to pull out some really good, authentic names, instead of all these repetitive, unrelenting, overly Christianized, marvel-less, modern naming conventions?
Exactly why i suggested those unique names below

What's wrong with a Christian name, and why can't the op show some originality and figure out names himself?

Who calls strangers to help him name his child?

Does rebelling against religion now mean you end up soulless, directionless and cultureless?
Re: IGBO Name For My Daughter by ChinenyeN(m): 12:18am On May 17, 2015
^ heh, I guess that is one way to look at things. There's nothing wrong with Christian names. Just with how the culture over saturates its offspring with overly Christian names, as if to be more Christian than the Europeans who brought Christianity to them.

Some people just go around NL looking for where to start a fight undecided , Why don't you just walk away if you have nothing meaningful to type? If op refuses to "show some originality and figure out names" and decide to seek help from his online brothers how is that your business? Please what point are you trying to make in your last sentence Mr originality undecided

Stop looking for who to vent your frustration on, you just walk into a thread and start attacking the Op for seeking online help in naming his child?
Talk about being immature undecided .
You are not meant to comment on every thread, walk away when you have nothing to say, now Bleep off my mention.

Unighini/Uniini - sweetness
Mmimi - hard to explain
Ovo - a dove-like bird.
Wheoma - good thing
Nnebuwhe - mother is supreme
Olomaruwa - returned well to the world (reincarnation name)
Kpakpando - star
Nyenna - father's wife (an exclamation of the attachment a father feels with his daughter)
Ndudi - there is life
Ngwahu - [beautiful] garment/adornment
Nmesa (Nmesaihu) - brings a smile to one's face
Olenjuru (Olenjurulo) - can I ever have enough of you to fill my home?
Whedacho - what we have been searching for
Mgbudo - born in a time of peace/tranquility
Odo - charity
Oyoyo - beauty/perfection
Olujie - so beautiful that she will always catch the gaze of people
Ocham - has come to brighten up my countenance
Ndem - exemplifying the beauty of women
Adibe - child of my youth

I can certainly go on...
Also, clearly these names aren't Izugbe (as there is no such thing as Izugbe names), but my point remains made.

Why do people have this notion that Mgbeke is a bad name when it means a baby girl born on Eke market day. Likewise Mgbafor,Mgborie and Mgbonkwo, pls let's change that mindset.

Thanks. No, I'm not from Delta. I am Ngwa, from Abia. The names I posted are Ngwa names (though there are a few that may be shared with neighboring, non-Ngwa communities).

AmiLaHoit:
Chei.. Nwannem onye Ngwa, where did you spool all these names from?
Don't believe they are from ur head. U have become a suspicious transaction o o ...hahahaha

Ochi lei. Believe it. My mind is a trove of very unique, and maybe ancient (and now forgotten) Ngwa names. If ever I am to have offspring of my own, then I have got plenty of Ngwa names to choose from that will cater to a variety of contexts (I will not pick a name for any of my offspring until after they are born. I want to name them based entirely on the context that surrounds their birth).

iamodenigbo1:

So, then you know that my list is full of legitimate names to choose from. And it looks like your grandmother got her wish after naming the Ada 'Olenjuru'. grin Where is your grandmother from? Which community, if you don't mind my asking?
Re: IGBO Name For My Daughter by ChinenyeN(m): 12:04pm On May 17, 2015
CaptainOjemba, Mgbeke also doubles as an insult of sorts in some communities. That may have something to do with it.
Re: IGBO Name For My Daughter by Nobody: 12:18pm On May 17, 2015
Which community see Mgbeke as insult? Just hearing this for the first time.
ChinenyeN:

Re: IGBO Name For My Daughter by ChinenyeN(m): 12:40pm On May 17, 2015
Maybe I should rephrase and elaborate. It isn't an insult in the strictest sense, but it has developed a derogatory meaning (i.e. 'insult of sorts'). I'm not sure what the English equivalent would be though. Maybe the closest equivalent would probably be the B word, but the cultural scope of 'mgbeke', as a derogatory slang, gets lost in translation if you translate it over as the B word.

Anyway, I have no idea how it started (though I do have a postulate) and which communities the derogatory usage sprang from (it just stands to reason that it developed from one or more communities in the Igbo region). Nonetheless, it spread and is an actual slang now. Most likely, the slang meaning is relatively new, but I have no way of being certain.
