Yes it is possible ( google is your friend)

Step 1: Download and install the software; mplab for assembly language, ccs or mikroc for C language programming
Step 2: Buy the programmer(pickit2 or pickit3) and deveoopment kit
Step 3: Saerch for online tutorials
Step 4: Start coding

Its possible to learn on your own but u need to make internet your best friend. Infact, learning on your own makes u more creative and independent. Then ask questions from those that are ahead of you about what you find very hard to understand.
