ABUJA—SOME senators opposed to the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President, Tuesday, accused the Clerk of the National Assembly, Alhaji Salisu Maikasua of conspiring with senators of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, against the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.

The lawmakers, who disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari had, prior to the Tuesday’ inauguration of the National Assembly, asked Maikasua to delay the inauguration, due to his proposed meetings with legislators of the APC fold before election of the principal officers commenced, accused him of disobedience to the president.

Speaking through Senator Barnabas Gemade, APC, Benue North East, the senators wondered why the clerk, without confirmation on whether the said meeting had ended, opened the gate, thereby letting opposition senators gain entry to elect new principal officers of the National Assembly, leaving others behind.

Briefing newsmen in Abuja, on the development, Gemade fumed: “The clerk of the National Assembly knowing fully well that a quorum for election of the Senate President has not been met, went ahead to conduct an election that shuts the door to about 53 other senators which would remain unacceptable…

“It was necessary for us to believe that the president had actually sought a slight delay to enable him speak to the senators that he had agreed to speak to. I think that respect begets respect and for that reason, we expected that if the president had made that request to the clerk, it would be reasonable for the clerk to be mindful of the fact and the status of the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and in view of those members that were called to the meeting. But unfortunately, this was not done, “he added.

That is why the issues should be taken to court, it goes against human decency to act the way Saraki and co acted, if their actions are illegal, then we might face a situation that whatever actions they undertake as a house would by extension be illegal.

When is this weeping going to end? Throwing tantrums and playing blame game wont change anything in their favour either. So I think its time to move on. I thought they are "progressives"?

Garba Shehu Media assistant to Buhari said on channels tv this morning that the president did not write any letter to the clerk to shift inauguration time. I don't understand why the APC can't accept their fate.

the case has been taken to the court of law so we will see how it unfold.

Saraki is the new senate president, the aggrieved APC members should live with it, the senators that left the election venue to see PMB have themselves to blame...

Lawan and his supporters knew elections would hold tuesday morning, going to court is tantamount to waste of time and money...

Agreed. They should go to court. But my question is "is it within d law 4 PMB to obstruct the activity of the law makers" ?
IMO, they should stop displaying the impunity that saw PDP in the gutters.

The clerk of the NA was part of the whole grand conspiracy. He knew quiet well that most APC senators elect were not present and he went ahead to conduct the election. The APC led federal government should not waste any time in retiring him. Treachery should not be condone in any manner.

APC are now cry babies, why can't guys just accept defeat and allow Buhari deliver on his promises to the electorates.

In as much as I agree with you, that they should go to court to seek redress on the issue...I would like to ask

Was Lawan and his supporter not aware election would hold that morning

The election of saraki how was it illegal

Is there a rule/law that states that all the senators must be present before an election could hold

Atleast about 70 senators was present when the election commenced and I would want to believe that represents majority out of the 109 senator...

In the best and future interest of the APC, Saraki should be expelled and the chips be allowed to fall wherever they may.

There is no point nurturing a baby viper, thinking It will recognise its owner, not going to happen, its poison is reserved for everyone in equal proportion.

Imagine an ordinary clerk disobeying the president of the federation and PMB is expected to swallow the insult like that.
Eventhough I honestly don't think its as straightforward as Gemade has made it to sound,but for a clerk to have unfortunately been roped in in the charade of Saraki,shows that nobody is taking this lying low.
U guys gloating with Saraki should go read again the president acceptance of his election.It was carefully made and loaded for anyone who can read in between the lines.
Meanwhile why has Saraki not paid a courtesy visit to PMB if he has been fully accepted by PMB.I continue saying it,Saraki has murdered sleep.

PMB would not involve himself any action that would resemble the nonsense of the PDP, PMB already indicated he will work with the leadership

Please correct yourself with respect to the bold - 57-. It is court responsibility to pronounce illegality. so that is why seeking redress in the courts remains the best option.

I'm not happy over this event but I'll not go easy on the APC. They knew saraki's antecedents, he was not present at the meeting together with his clique and nobody suspected anything.

You mean nobody noticed the absence of Saraki and his loyal clique ?? That to be is unbelievable.
