The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun on Friday declared the newly elected President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki as duly elected, an indication that the party was backtracking from its earlier hardline stance against the emergence of Saraki as Senate President and Dogara as Speaker of the House of Representatives.


In a related development, the United Kingdom and Saudi Arabia have pledged to work with Saraki. The UK added that it was not bothered by the controversies trailing his emergence.


Oyegun’s position is contrary to that of the national leader of the party, Bola Tinubu who had earlier said Saraki was not duly elected and that he would not recognise him.


The APC had equally earlier threatened sanction against its members at the National Assembly for not towing the party's line in electing their leaders.


On his part, President Muhammadu Buhari said the election was constitutional, but noted that the party's procedure should have been adhered to.
