And in the ancient times, there were offerings that only the levite priests could eat if they wanted to. But still don't let your pastor con you into giving offerings. If he asks you to contribute to the development of the church, you can if you will. But, don't let him scare you with false pronouncement.

Now OP is right giving to the poor is also another variation of giving and just like others it has its own rewards. But that doesn't mean that you won't or can't give to your pastor/prophet, there is an offering called Prophet offering and it also has its own reward.[/color]

Very true. Most of these new generation churches are just after money. They use all kinds of tricks to coarse people into giving. Now it is absolutely good to give but when it gets to the point of using psychology to get people to give, it becomes a problem. They play on people's mind saying when they give N1,000 they will reap N5,000 instantly! That is somewhat true because the more a person give the more the person recieve however, giving becomes more meaningful when done whole heartedly. God can never be manipulated nor is he a lotery machine. God looks at the heart. Do not give because your pastor influenced you to do so. Give because you want to.

Save yourself the stress of telling people what to give and what not to give...preach the gospel of Christ...leave people to decide whether to give sacrificialy or grudgingly.

People wont just listen. I can see a few people coming to defend these thieving pastors. Give your money to the poor, stop giving your money to thieves in the name of offering.

In all, he did not ask them to give to him until it hurts. He did not say they should sow to God through him, he did not specify that God will only bless them if they give him money or food like most pastors do. Hell they even sell annointing. Yes, in many churches pastors will say those who can give God #10k line up here.......those who have #5k to give line up here, those who want to give #2k stand here and those who want to give whatever, stand here. And then they annoint for breakthrough according to howmuch was donated. When did God become so humanly greedy? God can lift a man with no dime to give in church today beyound any human comprehenssion so that a brother/sister doesnt have money to donate doesnt mean God wont bless him/her. Yes its okay for a pastor to ask for help from his congregation, and those who can and want to will rally and help him out. Even the tithe was not hidden. God made it clear its for his priests to feed and care for themselves.

The bro has made some reasonable points. However, one thing I like to emphasize on, is the issue of striking a balance. Instead of channelling all your givings to just one man of God, I rather divide it into different portions for the poor, Church, other fellowships that are committed to the work of evangelism and so on. One mistake some people do is to give all to may be their Pastor. Any other member of their family or relative's needs are not considered. Instead of giving my #5000 to my Minister alone, I rather give him #2500 and the remaining amount to a poor man for his/her child's school fees. 'That is called killing different births with a stone'
It is also very important to note that men of God deserve to also leave well so as to remain focused on the work of God. They also have a family with competing needs and not all are well to do or invest or get earnings from other sources.
Give righteously but dont be deceived.

go and read peter's message on the dignity of labour,he advised the people of thessolonians not to depend on the offerings made by the people,that they should engage themselves in different jobs so as to meet with their domestic needs...so as a clergy,you also need to work so as not to depend on the offerings of the people.

is it the auditorium people gather in God's name? if truth be told those in favour of exploiting that scripture will not want to reason it any other way.

The needy, now, is a platform to enrich rich pastors, there is always a project going on to bless the needy but it rarely reaches them.

in my church, we give 'partnership' to help the needy in other countries that are more advanced than Nigeria, and I ask what of the needy in our local assembly?

there's nothing inspiring about prayer for goodness sake. did I say you should pray for the poor?

teach a poor man how to get rich, use them to get even more money if you can. but always give them equal(or more) cash value to what value their work is for you.

you can also expose them to the truth that they can become rich irrespective of their current condition. use yourself as an example if you were once broke.

Are you saying they should steal to run the church?

Do you know that Some workers in the church are been paid salaries?

How will you listen to the word of God in a church that there is no fan or air conditioner?

There are churches wt so many overflows outside d church, speakers n television are needed

everybody was born rich. God didn't reserve wealth for some group of people.

which is why you have to make as many people as possible discover they too can be rich instead of occasionally dashing the poor people money that can't last them till the next day.

thank God the scales are falling off our eyes...majority of them r not called, some who were called evangelize but they say no money in evangelism...they do these because of unemployment. Open our eyes more o God!
