Nice plan. However, does it stop a smart SAN employing technicalities to stall the trial? I guess not! Actually, our laws are replete with sections dealing with corrupt practices but it is the application and the porosity of the law that ensures justice is delayed and eventually denied! shachris02: |

Rhetoric of multiplying anti-corruption agencies - creating more rooms for more corrupt officials and monthly pay cheques for people. No Nigerian was born to be corrupt. Official Corruption in Nigeria results from over-concentration of powers in an increasingly debilitating unitary government system where revenues are collected from mostly one part of the country and dolled out to the states and local government areas by Abuja. Return fiscal federalism to Nigeria, make the country a true federal state - corruption shall go away as elected people begin to be closer to and accountable to the electorate. |

millionaireman:Fiscal federalism won't make Nigerians anti-corruption. We were practicing fiscal federalism in the first republic. Guess what.,...we still had corruption (Nzeogwu's ten percenters). What we really need is an end to reliance on selling resources.......and a focus on using available resources to develop industrially. That will reduce corruption because any corrupt behaviour means a reduction in jobs and investment.....which means a reduction in revenue....and which means revolution.Better you make everything work. Whereas with our sharing the money mentality.....if billions dissapear...no problem....we just export more and replace the missing millions.Bad economics. |

millionaireman:You don't understand political economy. Since you claim the concentration of power and economy in Abuja which makes states look up to it for allocation is the cause of corruption, how come some states that generate billions in IGR still borrow and can't pay salaries? |

bushdoc9919:am not 2 excited with d proposed bills. Apart from d whistle blower bill, d others seem 2do with improving how banking and financial institutions conduct themselves. I don't think these bills can hurt a fly how much more a thieving politician. I was xpecting 2c laws that stipulate stiff penalties 4 corruption. These aren't anti corruption bills |

OrlandoOwoh:Stop being daft, I never said there is corruption because states look up to Abuja for allocation. There is hyper-corruption in Nigeria because a few persons that form the Abuja central government have access to the country's revenues, and they are less accountable to the masses who are very far away from them. |

You are hereby warned that looting, arson, homosexuality, rape, embezzlement, bribery or corruption, obstruction of the revolution, sabotage, subversion, false alarms and assistance to foreign invaders, are all offences And this gem.. Our enemies are the political profiteers, the swindlers, the men in high and low places that seek bribes and demand 10 percent; those that seek to keep the country divided permanently so that they can remain in office as ministers or VIPs at least, the tribalists, the nepotists, those that make the country look big for nothing before international circles, those that have corrupted our society and put the Nigerian political calendar back by their words and deeds. As it was in the begining..... p.s- Ten per centers.....when a contract was awarded in those good old days....the gent awarding the contract would demand 10% of the payment for the contract as his ''share''. (Nowadays...let's just say prices have gone up. We have to correct for inflation, you know). |

@OrlandOwoh, .....the phenomenon of states looking up to federal government for revenues breeds indolent citizens not just official corruption - many citizens depend on monthly allocation from the fed, they don't want to work to create wealth to develop their states - |

| Re: Buhari To Fight Graft With 5 Special Laws by millionaireman: 2:50pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
More anti-corruption agencies when what breeds corruption is the unitary government system that over-concentrates power on the hands of a few people in Abuja - this is like setting up more anti-theft squads while the mouthwatering baits are there for the thieves. If the recommendations of the last CONFAB are implemented, Nigeria shall jolly well be on its way to preempt official hyper-corruption. But PMB is most likely to struggle to sustain the existing political status quo, because by far, it favours the north of Nigeria. |

| Re: Buhari To Fight Graft With 5 Special Laws by Wildrage: 2:51pm On Jun 16, 2015 |
Any measure taken to curb corruption is highly welcome, however, the existing laws are adequate to take care of all incidents of graft and official corruption if well implemented, there lies the problem, capacity . Instead of these multiplicity of laws and duplication of agencies, all we need to do is strengthen the existing institutions, fund them well and make sure they are better trained for the arduous task of combating the hydra-headed problem. Reform of our legal procedure is long overdue, situations where technicalities are employed to delay cases and frustrate the course of justice must be discouraged, if possible, special courts should be set up to handle only corruption cases. With speedy trial that ensures offenders are promptly and adequately punished, a clear message is sent to the corrupt that the courts would know more be a comfortable refuge where cases are delayed while they continue to enjoy their loot |
