Senator Dino Melaye has condemned the proposed N8.64 billion wardrobe allowance to be received by lawmakers in the 8th National Assembly.

Melaye, who represents the Kogi West Senatorial District, also said that the country’s lawmakers must be ready to accept a pay cut due to the situation in the country.

The Senator made the comments on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, while speaking during a programme on Africa Independent Television (AIT).

“I stand solidly on what I earlier said about pay cut. There must be a pay cut to Senators and House of Representative members,” Melaye said.

“You can’t be talking about change and this kind of money in this country now when people are hungry. We must be sacrificious. We must show Nigerians that we must sacrifice by allowing a pay cut,” he added.

The proposed allowance has caused controversy in the country with many criticizing the Senators for being insensitive to the plight of the average Nigerian.

Melaye and Senator Ben Murray-Bruce were especially criticized due to earlier anti-extravagance statements credited to them.

Dino Melaye should reject the allowance and call for move for downward review of the frivolous allowances of the NASS by RAFMC (not sure of the correct abbreviation but Ben Bruce said all allowances is their decision)

If he's condemning it he can only prove he's not a party to that by rejecting his share of the allowance or even request his should be cut down, but if collects his share and gulps it down his throat, then they're all the same and he shouldn't be making unnecessary noise in the media,

This change is looking like the change of people and party in power not the real change but it is too early to judge. What I am seeing now is not encouraging.

I don't jst understand Nigerian's. when some people comes out to be our spokesmen we will complain DT d person to shut up DT him or her is corrupt , wen d keep quiet we will still complain DT no one wants to talk. na we d cause our problems.
