Tribunal Upholds Melaye's Election As Senator for Kogi West. • Says Adeyemi's petition lacks merit Senator Iroegbu in Abuja The 2015 Election Petition Tribunal holding in Lokoja, Kogi State, Thursday upheld the election of Otunba Dino Melaye, as the Senator representing Kogi West, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In its ruling, the tribunal dismissed the petition filed by the former chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sen. Smart Adeyemi, for lacking in merit. The tribunal dismissed the former chairman the Nigeria Union of Journalists' (NUJ's) case for lacking merit as the petitioner filed his papers very late. The tribunal explained that the case lacked merit because the plaintiff (Adeyemi) filed his reply and preliminary objection late. The Judge concluded: "the case be dismissed as abandoned".
